Songs of the Week 🎶 Update #9

This is going to sound way off topic, but have you ever heard of or read the Chronicles of St Mary’s series by Jodi Taylor? Even though there is time travel involved (I know, I know….) it is a very informative series on English history. Plus it is laugh-out-loud funny. The first book in the series is titled Just One Damned Thing After Another. I think I learned more history from these books than I ever did in school 😆

I love Purcells’ Hear my Prayer. I have been a great admirer of Purcell. He’s one of my favourites. I also get chills listening to Thomas Tallis who wrote if Ye Love Me.I know he was a Court Choir Director, composer and a great songwriter for Henry the VIIi, Edward VI, Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth . ( Vile king that he was. ) I think Sir Thomas More kept him in check for a long time. Unfortunately this relationship corroded once he wanted to annul his marriage to Katherine of Aragon. More was a devout Catholic. Finally Henry arrested his friend More and had him beheaded for refusing to agree that Henry wanted to have the right to start his own Church of England. Henry almost immediately regretted this. More was a great statesman and one of the people who was always honest with him. Sorry for going on and on but history is one of my passions.
