Week of Oct 30, 2024 The Pergolesi Stabat was divine. I noted the countertenor was again part of the duo. Beautiful. Sophie May was on Spotify and I don't use Spotify. The Adam Melchor piece was beautiful and amazingly integrated the meaning with the visuals in the video. A real winner in my book. The Rameau piece simply blew me away. I've never heard such an early song sound so full, rich, and modern. It had a feel almost of the Romantic era. The mixture of the instruments and when they were used was magical. I have no idea how I missed hearing this piece until now, but I sure am glad you had it on your list because it is quite special to me. I have yet to hear a song by the Lathums that I did not like and this is certainly no exception. Loved everything about it. So simple, clean, and yet with his lovely voice and purity of harmonies, it clearly stands above most rock music pieces, at least to me. Mecano unavailable in my country. I enjoyed Saturday, but mainly due to the unexpected slow keyboard entry and then the abrupt change to upbeat and quick tempo, ending back on the slow again. An interesting was to do a song. I've always liked ELO and the early beginning here sounded a bit like a tribute to Beatles style songs, but quickly segued to a more ELO sounding piece, but quite different at the same time. Perfect music for the story for sure. Very enjoyable.

Week of Oct 16. I already commented on the first four, but have no idea where those went. Hoping you already have them as I won't repeat them. The Toccata I really enjoyed. It sounds very appropriate for the period. It also happens to be the first and only piece for solo lute that I've ever heard. The repetitive arpeggios were a little tiresome because the melody to which they are attached is not a very strong one imo. Even so, I'm very glad to have heard this. As a huge fan of Debussy, I knew I'd like this harp solo, even though it was transcribed. Quite lovely. One of the better harp pieces I've heard. Acceptable in the 80's was clearly another parody but one I found with little value. Weird for sure. Jealous was as good a song as I have ever heard. The story is riveting and he sings it with such passion and heartbreak. This song moves into the top ten of any I can think of. Said with tears in my heart and musical pleasure without measure. Wow! Of course, I had heard Mr. Tom many times, but I am pretty sure I had never seen the video nor heard the longish introduction leading to the parts I remember distinctly. A good song and well done. Particularly innovative, but not quite rising to my personal pantheon of the best.
