All valid points here. AGT doesn’t have a “band” or any production assistance that I know of, since the the show’s performances are so diverse. I think a competition that is focused solely on singing would have been better for Austin, but glad he got his moment to shine.

His fans listen to his music regardless and hopefully he gains many more new ones through this! Never been a huge Simon fan, and no AGT judge is going to change my opinion regardless. And Scotty McCreery has done very well in country music circles, but I know that is more of a niche market. And I believe it may have been American Idol for Scotty McCreery…..

2025-07-11 19:01:13 +0000 UTCoof, I still think Austin is better than this, it bums me out that they asked him to do that and that he went along with that obvious setup. It feels like he's being exploited in a way, and that's icky. And I can name exactly 2 people who have become recording artists from these talent shows, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood...and that's it. And PS Austin, you don't even need a label you already have millions of fans, you do you boo, AGT isn't going to change your life, but Austin being Austin sure will change others. Just saying, he's too good for Simon's 25 year old schtick.
