Sneak Peek: The Connecticut Bench

Friends:

Several weeks ago, I did a Furniture Forensics about the little bench I found in my parents' barn. I said I was going to build it, and I've been chipping away at that project ever since. Yesterday, I finally knocked it together and I'm pretty pleased.

It looks simple, but don't be fooled. Making a bench like this with wire nails and no glue is tricky. You need to pay careful attention to order of operations and put the bench in all kinds of positions to actually get the nails in. It was pretty hard. I was humbled by the process.

Of course, we'll cover everything in the video and there will be FREE plans, but I wanted you to see it freshly completed. I'm going to put on a couple coats of milk-paint and a little polyurethane for durability, but this is where we are today.

A look inside, just for Patrons.

Hope you're having a good week!

Monticello is basically using rough sawn oak benches outdoors with exactly the same legs as Rex’s Roman work bench (or the traveler bench without the battens). They also work really well, even on uneven ground.

Looks nice. Thinking might make one for the firepit. ... Unless you got a better bench type in mind!?!
