Happy Monday, my lil’ atoms!

I’m a big fan of Astro Boy similarly to how I‘m a big fan of Doraemon. I love them as icons, as character designs, probably more iconic and perfect than anything I could ever hope to create. I’ve consumed enough media of both to understand what they are, what their purpose is, but I’ve never felt particularly obsessed with, say, their comics or cartoons. Still, I adore them both. They’re uncomplicated symbols of the joyous side of Japanese creativity and I’ll always love them for that.

With all that said, on paper, a intricate grimdark noir mystery thriller anime based loosely on a story arc from Astro Boy doesn’t sound like my jam, but in practice, “Pluto” is executed so well and I’m completely gaga over it. No spoilers, I’m only about halfway through it, but I’m digging it! As such, Astro Boy/Mighty Atom is on the brain, so I thought…well, I should do what I usually do!

The background needs a little more thought for sure, but Astro Boy (okay, Man) himself looks great and I’m excited to see this piece through to the end. I wanted to capture the spirit of the character while playing to my strengths, and I feel I’ve done that pretty well here.

And yes, I “upgraded” the iconic briefs to a full-on thong. Seemed funny and sexy at the same time, a combo I tend to gravitate towards.
