Happy Friday, drifters!
It became very clear to me early on that the theme of "wood" would win April's sticker poll - it ultimately got over half the votes! - so I took it upon myself to design the sticker a couple days ago. I usually wouldn't count my chickens before they hatch but the result was clear enough that I felt comfortable with it. Plus this helps me get back on schedule with sticker stuff, and we love that!
The last show I worked on at Cartoon Network was not a show, but a movie, an original project called "Driftwood." It was a creatively rich and unique project headed by Victor Courtright and definitely my favorite job I've ever had in my animation career so far. Sadly, it was canceled when Warner Bros. and Discovery merged and started slashing projects left and right. It bums me out that we didn't even finish storyboarding it and that nobody will see what we were making. It was great stuff.
In the film, characters piloted ships through space made mostly out of driftwood and old natural materials. I wasn't sure what I was gonna do for the theme of "wood" but after a few rough scribbles, I thought a slight homage to "Driftwood" would make for a cool design, and be meaningful to me. I gave the character tattoos to match the wood grain to make him feel almost one with the driftwood. I think it's pretty neat.
As always, if you're a member of the Pinup Sticker Club tier by April 3rd, you'll get this sticker mailed to you, along with a bonus sticker and postcard, so make sure you're signed up before then!
Happy Friday!
