Could Do Without

Second time I've seen this. I just noticed that Pumpkin is crying. And I'm not sure why, but I kind of think that she's got some ideas from those bad movies of hers.

It doesn't seem Rose was interested in berating TWB (the worthless bitch, aka Kat) for her sexuality. It was that her daughter is a minor and as such should be sheilded from sexual predators, no matter their gender or sexual inclination.

Poor kid.

Mama B needs to be compassionate and supportive, but she also needs to be honest. She may or may not be able to accept one of her daughters as a lesbian (maybe not even bi). It would be feasible either way, and we don't have the info to be sure. As a mother of six older daughters looking at sexuality in an honest perspective compared to past daughters actions (and we're not certain that Juniper takes the cake in this, even) wouldn't be surprising. Alternately, there are people who cannot accept anything but heterosexuality, and it's not odd for religion to play a role in that opinion, and we have hints that Rosemary is at least somewhat religious. The fact that Rosemary is calm at the end is hopeful for the first, but we don't know what all Katrina posted and Rosemary might've expected this and prepared herself, thus allowing the calm even if she doesn't accept it. If she can't accept the possibility of homosexuality, then she can side step the whole question by trying to explain to Pumpkin the danger signs she was seeing from Katrina, and mention the turning away of Ashliii & Bubbles (something Pumpkin can externally verify, and already knows even if Rosemary doesn't know that yet).

I was happy to see Rosemary's expression in that last panel looks devoid of anger. I was wondering which way that was going to go. Not to say that I think Pumpkin will get out of punishment for rule breaking, but I'm glad to see she's deliberately not going into this guns blazing.

Don't forget Ashliii's message. That probably made it pretty clear to Pumpkin that Katrina was intentionally attempting to seduce her. I'm not sure how angry Pumpkin will be at Rosemary for this, aside from emotions running high and anger being an easy outlet (i.e. not really meaning it once she has time to think).

So I guess the comic title also goes for the need for words in it? ;) But it really works better without, I think. Especially after the "loud" drama and arguments before, this makes even more of an impact. While at the same time giving us what Rosemary takes in panel four, a much needed breather.

However, now where does Pumpkin go to advance her hobby/interest? Rosemarie will need to deal with that bit, just as much as the emotions and sexual awakenings of her teem daughter. The emotions and sex stuff she'll definitely be experienced with, but, with the possible exception of Tara, Pumpkin may well be her first young over-achiever. From Pumpkin's POV, Mom not only ruined her life (angst, drama, tears tears, oh gawd mom how could you!) but she (again from her own POV) perhaps ruined (did ruin, actually) what chance she had a learning her art from a (pair of) much more accomplished mentors.

Now that the garbage has been taken out, Rosemary is on to more delicate work. This does look like Pumpkin needs someone to talk to properly, and her mom is probably the best person at the moment since she already knows the particulars and can help Pumpkin sort out her feelings.

The impression I get from Rosemary's expression in Panel 5 is not "I'm going to scold you out of existence" and more "I'm going to try and understand what happened first". That's interesting to see, given the very necessarily harsh woman we've been exposed to earlier in the series. Also, get well soon Chris. Hope you're feeling better.

We still do not know for certain what Pumpkin's preference even is. She might not even HAVE one.

O and Chris; good call I think. Strip is more effective without the text. We know there will be lots of talking, but letting the emotions calm down a bit is a good idea.

I think mama rosemary will handle this quite well. I personally think she needs to clarify that she has no problem with pumpkins sexual preference and that she supports pumpkin. Then to clarify that she is more worried about her being underage.

Yeah, but tears are something a parent is used to helping with... kids growing up are much harder.
