I didn't want you to wait any longer so I just went back to pet memes for the title. Jessica actually wrote the dialogue for this comic since I told her I needed 'two female comic nerds complaining about comic related stuff.' This is the result. If you would like to discuss any of these shows, I direct your attention to her. I watch one show on TV and it's season finale was last Sunday. So I won't be bothering with my television again until October. Yeah, you know which show. Also, 20 points to anyone who can guess the standee in panel 4.

As a long-time comix fan my friends can't understand why I don't watch and of those shows. I could copy/past this strip for them and save a lot of time...

I think it's the US entertainment mentality in general. My dad's been watching a lot of BBC shows on Netflix and he and Mom both have said it seems weird how often they kill off major portions of the cast. I think there's just too much risk aversion and an tendency to judge by one thing instead of an average over a longer term. So people stay with what seems safe (i.e. established series & characters).

That One Guy

I think this look is a little different from the wig look. The wig look was mischievous. This is more of a satisfied look, a "finally somebody gets me" look. Quinn appreciates comics in the same way Pumpkin does. She also doesn't care about Pumpkin's sexual identity in the slightest and, frankly, neither does Pumpkin. think Pumpkin is happy to find someone she feels she can truly be herself around.

Nah, this is pretty much the exact same stuff I complain about. One of my biggest pet peeves with mainstream comics is that there doesn't ever seem to be any real progress. If you flew to Africa, hiked 3 days out into the wilderness, and stumbled into a village with no electricity and mud huts, they'd know that Bruce Wayne was Batman. Everyone on the planet knows he's Batman and there's like 17 Robins waiting in the wings to take over, but DC can't possibly imagine moving on from their standard meal ticket. Ditto for superman and most of the other big names (and Marvel, AFAIK, isn't really much better) so the super-powered extras just keep piling up. And then some writes themselves into a corner and we have to hit the universal reset button all over again. It's kind of like this- we all enjoyed Harry Potter, but suppose they re-released the books again in 10 years, except this time instead its for an older version so everything is darker and grittier and sexier. And then 10 years after that they re-re-released it and this time all the magic is super-advanced technology from the future. And then 10 years after that we're back to magic, but this time it's got this hippy-druidic re-imagining and everything has to have a blood-sacrifice or whatever. No matter how much we liked the original, at some point everyone would stand up and shout "no more!" I kind of feel like that's where we've reached with comics. For all it's problems, most manga doesn't have to deal with 8 decades of accumulated baggage, alternate universes, and conflicting story lines. The mainstream industry has (IMO) become so stagnant and paralyzed that it just rehashes the same stuff over and over again, it can't write a decent story without an all-hero crossover, and most of the plotlines are so trite and ridiculous that no one under the age of 12 should be reading them and no one over the age of 14 would want to. That's my 2 cents, and then some.

Thanks for throwing me under the bus, Chris. ;) I await the onslaught of opposite opinions. :)

Arrow & The Flash = da BEST. I tried to get into Gotham but it just annoyed me.

Nick Grugin

Oh man. I have the same argument with the characters names. As if years later Commissioner Gordon is just going to FORGET that there was a cat burglar nicknamed cat who used to steal things. HMMMMM. WHO COULD IT BEEEEEE.

Shows always seem to dumb down. Look at NCIS (non superhero related) when it's first season was titled "Naval NCIS" :p I love the show Gotham, but do hate how they seem to have tried to put every known villain into it in the first season. Some way older than Bruce. Like Dent is now way older than Bruce.

I have to admit that I don't have the patience to watch TV shows while they're on the air any more. I just wait for seasons to be done and buy the DVD or BR version of the whole season and watch that way. I got tired of trying to make sure that I was able to watch it when it came on, and when I tried the DVR route I just filled it up with things I wanted to get to later until it became a chore. The letting it gather dust on a shelf until I feel like watching and then binge watching is working pretty well for me, though.

That One Guy

I just realized that this title works on multiple and even meta levels with the Ginny thing.

Mr. Blue

Okay, you know, I didn't see Harvey's face shadowing. I was more watching for Gordon and Bullock. I think that the first time that I saw Bullock was with Tim Burton's "Batman." In the comics, he started out as a clean cut cop who read about Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2) while eating his breakfast donut at his desk. But this was in the arc where it was Commissioner Gordon vs. the Joker while Batman was out of town. Bullock got Joker's bomb guy from the fingerprints taken off of a van in the rain with this small particle reagent. It seems that Bullock has been used in various places on the good cop/bad cop scale. He may have been as idealistic as Gordon at one time, but in various reincarnations, he has been cast with several degrees of good, bad, indifferent, scum, indulgent, self serving or the sap who has to follow the new drummer so he doesn't get them both killed.

Mr. Blue

This made my day.

Dragonus45

Aww, and here I was hoping it might be Beta Ray Bill. :-/

Haha, I seriously loled at that. Awesome random reference. Can't believe I recognized it.

YES! Who was also shown as a standee in the movie.

Is that....Power line from "A Goofy Movie""?

Uh oh, Pumpkin has a look in her eye. Last time we saw that wigs were tried on, but I doubt that'll be the result this time. As the standee goes...I have no idea. It's very yellow...screw it, it's batman.
