I've always considered it a positive thing when the cause of the pain not only isn't trying to take advantage, but also genuinely cares (even if not the way hoped for). So it's really just one of the better possible ways for getting required bad luck out of the way. Like finding out your breaks don't work at 5 mph as opposed to 70 mph.
