Status Update
Added 2024-11-11 13:28:18 +0000 UTCJust a quick check-in. I won't be releasing chapters this week, but I'm currently looking at returning for the last two weeks of November.
Thank you for all the well-wishes for my mother, they are very welcome and I am extremely grateful. She had a very rough week, but she is now home from the hospital. I'm fortunate enough to be in a position where I can provide help for her, and the support of my readers is what has made that possible. You have given me the opportunity to get my mother the care she needs, and for that, I will forever be grateful to you all.
I appreciate so many people saying they would be happy to keep paying during this lull period. One of the reasons I chose to pause billing is to relieve a source of stress on me. When people are being charged and I'm not releasing chapters, that lives in the back of my head while I should be focusing on other things. Just for my own peace of mind, I like that not being an issue.
Again, thank you all for the support you have given me, in every sense.

I was thinking if this happens again you could prepare some more “extra/side” chapters and keep those in reserve for when crap happens in real life and that would give you some wiggle room to take care of stuff while still posting content. There’s also the option of using AI to generate art and posting that occasionally. I’d enjoy a chapter from the past from : Vermillion, Taika, the vampire queen (Elizabeth?), Shade, Collin, & Gordon! BUT if that’s more of a mental burden, forget I said anything. I’m just tossing ideas. Family and mental health come first! I’m totally addicted to your story, btw. Know that when I offer criticism it’s because I care enough to actually want to help. If I didn’t like it I wouldn’t bother. So - do what you need to do to keep the quality up. I’ll wait. ❤️

I see that you are feeling guilty about not pausing the billing. When i chose to support you on Patreon, it is to support YOU, as a human then a writer, not to buy advanced chapters. We can buy whole books when they come out. To me it is a pay-forward toward your confort and peace of mind that makes room for your precious créativity. The same way I of course would love to read the doors of stone , and still support Patrick Rothfuss’ other projects. The guilt comes from inside you, make it leave, it does not belong. We can adult and pause or reduce the billing when we need or want to.

I always inevitably have to fully cancel my membership and resubscribe to see posts. I don’t care if I’m only technically receiving half of what I’m paying for a month. It happens. And you deserve PTO every once in a while. Also, great that your mom is doing better. Hopefully it stays that way for a long time!

I actually started listening to Jason's odyssey on audible and pledged my support to help ensure that you had the steady income to continue the series. As long as we get to the end of his journey eventually that is all that matters to me and a couple weeks or even a month here or there without a new chapter matters little to me in the grand scheme of things. I read them now and get excited when they come out but for a long time I refused to read them and waited for the audible release. Be well and take care of your mother and I will patiently wait until you are ready and able to get back to us.

If someone doesn't want to pay during that time, they can cancel and resubscribe later. You shouldn't short yourself of the goodwill of those that would maintain their support while you're taking care of your own. Whenever you're done and come back to writing, we'll still be here.

You have a brief period of freedom (20s to mid 30s) and then life asserts itself. People get sick, parents get older, children happen. Point is, I get it. And when life throws stuff like this at you, the best you can do iis try to make the best of the time you have, specially when it's your mom. Take the time you need, and then take some extra. I'm sure Jason would understand just as much as I do. From the comments I'm seeing, so does everyone else here.

Take your time, be with your family. Nothing is as important right now as supporting your loved ones and taking care of them. But do us all the favour and take also care of yourself. I think all of us would agree and understand, if you would take the rest of the year off. Don't put pressure on yourself because of us; we can wait. Your family and your wellbeing can not.
