Hoshimachi Suisei-'Stellar Stellar' DEEP VOCAL ANALYSIS

I had to revisit this song because I found it so interesting and moving. What are you thoughts?

Hoshimachi Suisei-'Stellar Stellar' DEEP VOCAL ANALYSIS

The word you keep picking up on is romanized as "dakara," which is sort of what English would use as a middle-of-the-sentence word but Japanese structure puts it at the end of the line "datte boku wa hoshi dakara." Datte and Dakara work together in a hard-to-explain way to both essentially mean "because," Boku is a (funnily enough, masculine, because she wants to be the prince) form of saying "I/me," Wa is "is/am," and Hoshi is "star" just like in her name. Due to the famous Japanese L/R consonant swapping, the syllable she's actually singing at the end of the phrase is "LA." It's also a sorta fun example of how Japanese gets away with little shortcuts because she sings "boku wa" as "bokwa" to fit it in the note structure; sorta their version of contractions.

The comments on instrumentation and tone kinda give me a chuckle; they're certainly true for this rendition where they just brought a couple people (including the composer on the guitar) into the studio, but if you go one entry higher up in the search you started with you'll find the original album version which completely embodies that "J-Pop maximalism" that Riku mentioned. It even has a polymetric prechorus with her voice reverb-echoing in the distance to make you completely lose your musical footing like you're floating off to space. This performance does its job showcasing her voice, but the produced version more embodies her music, if that makes sense.

Hoping you check out End of Life by Mori Calliope (pronounced like the instrument)

Signed up just for this deep dive and very much enjoyed it. Seemed a bit confused on the translation but it's pretty spot on. It's a song about self empowerment and over coming depression. Instead of sitting of bed holding her knees crying she decided for herself to find her own meaning in life. "Instead of being Cinderella, waiting for things to get better in life, I'd rather be Prince Charming who sets out on the journey to find what I love" or as it says in the second chorus "Rather be the mighty hero who saves the world then the tragic princess waiting to be rescued" because SHE is the star in her life, brilliantly illuminating the dark night sky.
