Weapon (longsword / greatsword), very rare (requires attunement)

A blade of prehistoric bone augmented by modern technology, forming a hungry motorized jaw. You have a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. This weapon has 4 charges, and regains all expended charges when you finish a long rest.

Reconfigure. As a bonus action, you can transform this weapon from a bone-jawed greatsword to a longsword and serrated shield or vice versa.

Breaker Jaw (Greatsword From). When a creature hits you with a melee attack, you can spend a charge as a reaction to attempt to catch the attack in its jaws. Make an attack roll with this weapon. If the total is greater than or equal to the triggering attack roll, the triggering attack misses. If the triggering attack was made with a creature’s limb, you roll your attack’s damage as normal, and if your attack was a critical hit, the creature loses function of that limb for 1 minute or until it receives magical healing. If the triggering attack was made with a weapon, you disarm the creature of the weapon, and if your attack was a critical hit, a nonmagical weapon disarmed this way is destroyed.

Serrated Shield (Longsword and Shield Form). When a creature misses you with a melee attack, you can spend a charge as a reaction to retaliate with your shield’s serrated edge. The creature takes 1d6 slashing damage and must succeed on a DC 18 Constitution saving throw or suffer a lingering wound. A creature with a lingering wound takes 1d6 necrotic damage at the start of its turn until a creature uses their action to staunch the wound or the wounded creature receives magical healing.

When Excaviar, the enigmatic archeologist and artificer, first discovered the bones of an extinct predator, he was enraptured by its ferocious and durable design. What started as an experiment to demonstrate the destructive power of its jaws, quickly became an effort to enhance the specimen, allowing one to wield its brutality and tenacity for themselves. Excaviar toiled away at the terrible design, so preoccupied with whether he could pay homage to the ancient beast, he never stopped to think if he should…
