LAST CHRISTMAS

LAST CHRISTMAS is a game of time-travelling festive ghosts trying to avert global societal collapse. I wrote it with help from Chris Taylor and Charles Dickens.

N.B. I consider the Muppets version of A Christmas Carol to be more canonical than the original, but I have left the "summon homonculi" power in under Christmas Present's abilities because I felt it was more fun

We’re recording a game of Honey Heist today for the Holiday Special of our podcast. I wish I had joined on Patreon sooner so we could have got this game instead!!

Oh man, sorry for the wall o' text. Enter submits, apparently.

This was hard to play but very rewarding and led to some very silly things happening, which was really quite fun. It took a while for me to get into it, as it's a different way of storytelling than D&D or other one shots. I found that keeping track of what happened in the present was the most useful thing (i.e. if they did something in the past how that changed the present). It was also harder for the players to play a NPC to mess with the others' stuff as it sort of went against what they were trying to do. My ghosts were basically trying to take Scrooge on his journey to be a better person but managed to mess it up almost every time (lots of 2s rolled tonight!). First they tried the "creep him out by telling him he's gonna die" which ended up with him having several heart attacks, then they tried to possess people to tell him what to do (or hug him, in Belle's case, which (including one heart attack) eventually ended up with him promising to open a dog shelter with his money), which sort of made him care about stuff (but often about the wrong things, i.e. dogs), they fixed his heart (so he didn't have a heart attack), and eventually through a couple of attempts at bad dog experiences (two ending up with him hitting his head on a desk and dying after dogs launched themselves at him) he sent the bad dog off to the Cratchitts butchered up to look like a goose and now dog is a Christmas delicacy. I don't know, don't ask me. The ghosts seemed happy with the "good enough" timeline so I'm happy too. :D
