GIANT GODDAMN ROBOTS
Added 2018-01-18 15:54:10 +0000 UTCThis month's game is GIANT GODDAMN ROBOTS, a mech fighting game that involves throwing dice and cards at pictures of enemy robots!
GGR isn't really like anything I've written before: although you can use it for roleplaying (and there's a "Stuff other than giant robot combat, for some reason?" appendix which contains very brief RPG mechanics) it's more of a board game. Or a card game? Mainly, it's a game where you hurl dice across a table at the GM and hope to land them on pictures of giant monsters that they've drawn. Which is new!
I really hope you enjoy it! I've been wanting to write a mech game for a long time now - about four years - and I've been working on them, on and off, but none have ever really worked for me. GGR started as a more traditional RPG which aimed for cinematic, back-and-forth giant robot combat, but even though I had a cool system (and a setting which involved animating cathedrals into bipedal structures to battle enormous demons) it wasn't quite working.
I don't think that this will be the mech game that I've been trying to write, probably because it involves weaponising handfuls of D6s, but I reckon it'll be fun anyway. You could play it with a GM, too, as a straight wargame if you're bored and have twenty minutes to kill.
Much love,
- Grant
