CoS November Devlog - Railroad Tycoon 3 Retrospective, "What's the game?" of CoS; and Developer Q&A!

Hello Patrons! This month we wanted to celebrate and reflect upon 20 years of Railroad Tycoon 3. The game is an undeniable classic, and has informed a lot of our own design decisions related to Century of Steam. We wanted to use the anniversary of Railroad Tycoon as a way to talk about what  some of the more "game" elements of Century of Steam will be, and also hit questions from you, our wonderful Patrons!

Customization Part 2 will be coming in December. We thank you for your continued support!

Something I am kind of curious about How is interchange going to be handled? A lot of narrow gauge railroads were crucial to a relatively small select region and thus interchange and switching between standard gauge and narrow gauge was critical. For example the Sumpter Valley. At its largest point it was 80 miles and was the connection between logging operations and the Union Pacific mainline. Thus the interchange between standard and narrow gauge was crucial. So much so that even after the mainline was torn out in 1947, they still operated 1.5 miles of dual gauge track for another 14 years just to facilitate transfer of lumber between standard gauge trains and the lumber mills

Loving the passion behind the project really looking forward to what's to come. Couple of questions for the next Q&A, will there be the ability to use handsignals whilst switching? And if it may be discussed, what are coal and wood firing going to look like? Are you going to have to aim where the fuel is going? And presumably there will be options to simplify and complicate the sim as the player sees fit?
