Preface to June's Vlog, & Questions Welcome!

Hope you all are enjoying the warmer weather this summer (or cooling off in the southern hemisphere!) We wanted to let you all know in advance that there has been a small change in scheduling, so things will be a little different for June. As it turns out, much of our software department is out of the office for most of this month, so we will not be showing a new feature spotlight this time around. Between our software lead getting married and going on honeymoon, a certain avian-themed individual being out of the country, and others making recoveries from being under the weather, many of us are getting some much-needed rest and recovery. It has been an immense amount of exhausting work to get to this point, and with so much more hard work left to go before the finish line, we want to take care of each other and ensure we all can cross that line with our corporeal forms and sanity intact.

That being said, work has still been done this month outside of the software department, and we would like to offer you all the chance to hear from some new voices on the team in a field that many don't get to see: how our research team helps aspects of Century of Steam to go from concept to recreation, with some sneak peeks at what's in the pipeline! This month we will be taking a behind the scenes look at every step of the process, everything from primary source and diagram collection to paint and lettering replication to on-site gathering of resources and knowledge, and the expertise and connections that our team has fostered to make this not only possible, but as historically faithful and vibrant as it can be.

In the meantime, if you have any questions you would like to ask our research, asset, and artwork/typography team members about their work, please provide your questions below!

Take care and happy pride,

-- Studio 346

Not sure for switch stuff but signaling on the narrow gauge, even on long narrow gauge lines like the D&RGW ,was all taken care of by the timetable and train orders. There were no token systems on any North American railroads as far as I know.

The California Poppy

Ive been wondering many of train games offer placeable switches but the lever is always immediately adjacent to the switch. In regions of high densities of switches this can be really annoying. Are there any plans for local scale ground frames and larger scale signalling and tokenisations options. E.g. available but not compulsory for game experience.

I personally don't know, but since it's based on real life, you could research it online.

Ann Hinchcliff

Will there be wheel slip and if so, will it damage your locomtive?

Evan Wetterlind

ya let them have a rest because it is starting to get hot and they are probably exhausted

dana

For track building will there be the possibility of needing a MOW crane to place ties and rails for the harder difficulty.

Grizzly Flats Brakeman

Will the cars actually move along roads or just be static props?

CrisperEye6

I wish they would too when it’s in a playable state, but from how the devs talk I don’t think they plan to.

CrisperEye6

Just release the game in early access.
