2020-05-17 22:25:24 +0000 UTCAnother Sunday. Another Steins;Gate. The experiments are finally starting to take place and we are experiencing small changes - some expected, some unexpected. I loved the moment where Kurisu talks about why she wouldn't want to send a D-Mail. It feels incredibly real - that fear that would exist if you truly had the opportunity. I genuinely don't know if I would have the confidence of Okabe!

I'd actually love to discuss it but it would be impossible without talking about the series as a whole. You are entirely correct though that its sad that the character is most famous because of that initial gag.

Rukako is the first canon trans character I can think of in a popular anime (there's one older that was more niche and it's a reveal in first ep so I won't spoil the name), kinda sad the most famous scene with her is the "but he's a guy!" gag, and a legacy of "trap" characters. Also fans get really defensive about Okarin for some reason, but he's a young idiot and while it's coming from a place of ignorance, it's sad to see the main character invalidate Ruka at every step. It's in-character for him, but for some peeps it hits too close to home. On the other hand I feel like the show treats Ruka better than ReZero treats Felix, yet somehow Felix became the postergirl for the (anime) trans community. Maybe it's just because ReZero is more recent and popular. Ignore my ramblings, there's plenty of actual story to discuss and enjoy. "Reading Steiner" sounds like stand name.
