RE: Recommendations for Live Action Japanese TV Shows-- 1) "Kekkon Dekinai Otoko" (The Man Who Can't Get Married) starring Abe Hiroshi. This is very near and dear to my heart. Unlike many J-Dramas, it's not melodramatic at all, it's very funny and laidback and slice-of-life-ish. It's about this residential architect in his 40s who doesn't really care about human relationships, is just interested in his own niche areas of fancy, and has a kind of sarcastic personality as a defense mechanism. The show is about how he slowly starts to come out of his shell and develop relationships with the people in his life, his coworkers, etc. There was a second season which was pretty good, but I still love the first one the best. 2) The "Trick" series (3 seasons, 3 specials, 4 movies) - A comedy/mystery about a perpetually out of work stage magician and an arrogant mediocre physics professor who go around debunking fraudulent spiritualists. 3) "Mr. Nietzsche in the Convenience Store" (1 season). Based off of a Shojo gag manga about an odd fellow who works the night shift at a konbini and his coworkers. 4) Yuusha Yoshihiko series. (I think there's 3 seasons). Starring Yamada Takayuki (who played the main character in the Densha Otoko film). It's basically a live action parody of Dragon Quest. 5) Shomuni (I think there's 3-4 seasons). A workplace comedy based off of a manga.
