Making of "The Red One"

Now, you still don't know much about this guy, and I can't really go too much into the design without spoiling a fair amount of story, so for now, we'll just go over how the design evolved!!

In order to make this "Intruder", we wanted him to be different from the visual style of the rest of the visuals. Like, when you see him you get the feeling that he's, well, different!

Look at that guy! That guy looks different! This is one of the earlier concepts of the red one, made by egg! While we wanted him to feel out of place, we also wanted to make his intentions feel unclear down to a design level; mixing harsh lines and rounder shapes to create a character that just looked ambiguous.

We sent it over to one of our wonderful artists for the founders game, Eduardo, and the assignment was absolutely understood! Progress began on the initial appearance of this oddball character in the second chapter, where him and Ben first meet in the halls.

Now that's a trustworthy guy! Well... maybe!

We wanted him to seem a little more out of place, sparingly interacting with the world around him, so a note later, we had our final image!

I think some of my favourite parts of the founder's game's design process has to be the sketches that egg would make to have the artists figure out. Like, how the first one became the second is just incredible, honestly.

I'll probably make a post once more is revealed of the red one explaining the design process further, but this guy has to be one of my favourite designs/concepts of the entire series!
