Hunter X Hunter Episode 107 Early Access

Comments

Yu yu hakusho has the best tournament arc, ever. And the building blocks are there, especially in the later half, it’s basically like Hunter X Hunter is YYH but add in JoJo like Stand power scenarios.

While I don't think it's as revealing as Cheetu's match, the fight with Leol tells us a lot about nen as well. While one advantage of any technique stealing/borrowing ability is that it technically gets around the concept of "nen memory", a HUGE disadvantage is that it's unlikely you'll ever be as practiced and knowledgeable about any ability as its original user. I'd bet money that Grachan knows not to use his ability in an enclosed space without an easy getaway, specifically for the reason in this episode. Leol seems to have presumed that if his power was deactivated, the water would dissipate just like his board and harpoon (though, he also seemed to be surprised that this even happened at all); cue Yoshikage Kira: "presumptions are more terrifying than anything else. Especially when you're under the impression your abilities are superior." We don't know how much thought Leol put into creating his ability, or whether he considered making a fully ability-stealing version of it at some point. But he did end up choosing a power that specifically gives him one sixty minute use per favour. This meant that unlike Chrollo, he could not practice freely with his abilities, and suffered as a result. Maybe it's corny to say, but it almost seems like Leol didn't properly respect the powers he obtained. As in, the same way a smart gun user "respects" their gun. Considering his ultimate goal was to get the King in his debt and obtain his power, I like to think this is all a big metaphor for how trying to take shortcuts to strength or accomplishing your goals never truly helps you in the end. After all, Chrollo seems to understand that without good lateral thinking and adaptability, all the abilities in the world won't help him. Leol seemed to think the opposite: that a good ability would basically do the work for him.
