The Kawamoto sisters are the type of people I aspire to me
Edit: Zen I understand the bit you talked about in the end. I will never forget seeing my dad after he got the news that his mother had passed away. My dad was never the same afterwards. The pain never goes away. This show can get really heavy with themes of death and grief but overall it moves towards a positive conclusion. Im happy to see that you are enjoying the show so far.
Also this show used shogi as more of a device to move the story forward so a basic understanding of the rules is enough i think. The show also explains some rules

As you were talking about VAs here. Smith VA is Sugita (Gintoki etc).

She also did Teruhashi from Saiki K (Kinda crazy that Darkness and Teruhashi have the same VA)

You weren’t exactly right about the VA for Akari. The VA is Ai Kayano. From the shows you’ve watched, she voiced Darkness from Konosuba and Chizuru from Relife. She’s one of the more popular VAs so it makes sense to recognize her voice.

I looked up the basic rules of Shogi after reading a manga about Shogi, but I've never played it myself. It's somewhat similar to chess, I'd definitely like to play a bit sometime.

You can think of shogi as chess with the pieces having just a few more abilities than chess pieces.
