The style in some parts of Madoka are very similar to the style of Monogatari EDs as well.

2021-09-13 22:23:17 +0000 UTCEverything Shinbou directs end up gorgeous in some way or another, Madoka certainly has some styalistic similarities with Monogatari, but the psychedelic witch sequences are the result of getting Gekidan Inu Curry in as part of the production. They've a good relationship with Shaft ever since Yukihiro Miyamoto got them in to work on the OP for the first set of Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei OVAs. Since then they've worked on plenty of shows together including Bakeonogatari, Nisemonogatari, Fate\Extra Last Encore and of course very heavily on Madoka. Honestly half of the reason I want you to react to the SZS OPs is just because of their versions used in the OVAs.

2021-09-12 22:50:41 +0000 UTC3 shaft anime at the same time! Tho I love Sangatsu much more, this is still a great show. Especially love the music a lot in this show! One of the best anime soundtracks by Yuki Kaijura in my opinion.

Btw look into Shin Sekai Yori when you have the chance. It's a little slow to start but ends up being one of the best anime low key hidden gems out there! In my top 5 easily.
