I don't know too much about this, but I've heard that in Japanese culture, the body and soul and their unification is quite an important concept. Perhaps you've picked up on this while in Japan? Anyways, it explains why they were so shocked (additionally so from how an average human would react..) I call Walpurgisnacht as "wall-purg-es-not," I think it'll make do. In real life, Walpurgisnacht/Walpurgis night has been described to me as a Northern Europe Halloween-esque holiday -- probably not super accurate but as an American, it helps make sense of it.
