I'm unsure if you noticed (or mentioned) this or not so I'll just put this out there. This arc really breaks down her character image from what we've seen in Bake where she's this very cute, almost ideal and inoffensive girl. Her name "Nadeko" is very inspired by the Japanese idealistic "Yamato Nadeshiko". You likely have come across it at some point but if not, look it up

This is my second time watching Otori after Hana now, out of a heck of a lot of Second Season watches and I gotta say I'm actually pretty sold on this watch order now. There's thematic tie ins between Hana and Otori that flow way better like this and by far beat out the advantages of watching it the other way for me. And as for knowing that some characters definitely survive til at least Hanamonogatari I don't see that as any different to when we knew Araragi was gonna survive Kizumonogatari or Nekomonogatari Kuro before. I don't feel the scene where he was cut in half by Black Hanekawa was cheapened at all just because we knew he was gonna make it out of there personally. Nisioisin specifically wrote it this way, and given how much timeline hopping happens throughout this series the idea that something is "spoiled" by being in novel order as he intended it to be read is actually just absurd, the narrative is literally written with the idea that the reader has that information.
The anime release watch order is still very good of course (except Kizu, Kizu definitely should be where the novels are), but I'm absolutely a convert for putting Hana in the novel order and am interested to see where I sit on putting Koyomimonogatari in novel order too since I've never seen it that way before.

Man, Otori is phenomenal. A whole book dedicated to a character fabricating a God, uses said God to force herself to "repent", but then it ends up that her own guilt and sins were used to dig herself an even greater debt of sin! By herself! She set herself up!
Thank you so much for reaction and keeping up with Monogatari, love seeing your face when you make connections and light up! Have a good day whenever you're reading this m8!

One of the reasons why people say to watch Hana last for new viewers is that it "spoils" that Araragi will live past graduation. There are merits to both ways of thinking but I always prefer watching Hana at the end of second season. Still, this arc is really amazing.
Kanbaru in Nise when talking about Nadeko "Araragi, you still haven't realized the final boss." heh :)
