At first all I could see were the little differences between it and season 1, but by the end I thought it was just as good and even better in many ways. One note I think is interesting: In the translation I saw they did Kobayashi's choosing rhyme more literally instead of making it straight up "Eenie Meenie Miney Mo". In it she referenced the choice being up to God which I think explains Tohru's reaction to it better than thinking "By the toe" is barbaric. =oD
