That makes sense about Ymir, RaZn, I was thinking the same thing when I was watching, but I couldn't find the words at the time. Take care!

The Zen Reaction

Ymir died because she had no will to live. Even after showing kindness and trying to feel loved by jumping in front of a spear she was still just called a mere slave by her abuser, and thus she lost her will to live & died. Can't help but notice how extremely similar Ymir looks to Historia and just how much the two characters parallel each other.

Really great reaction and analysis. You caught a ton of the subtext that many people miss on their first watch/read. Also glad you mentioned the yggdrasil imagery and the "parasite/god" or hallucigenia, a cambrian lifeform, as fans like to call it- a fitting nickname for something that could represent the magic of life or living matter. I agree that the reveal was left just ambiguous and magical enough for me.

Yeah I'm also almost certain her death was meant to be voluntary, since they took the time to say Fritz knew a spear couldn't kill her, and they've already addressed how Reiner nearly died without regenerating because he had so little will to live in s4 part 1. The bloody flower rehashing the common theme of a cruel but beautiful world as she drifts away from her pain. Ymir gave up on her real life, and went to the paths realm because she still had attachment to the living world, but remained ever a slave until Eren appeared.

I thought about Ymir’s death more as voluntary than anything, but I do agree with the theory you had about the titan powers changing over time. Once Ymir is hit, theres no sign of smoke erupting from her injured area at all!

You know its a good one when the final thoughts are 15min long!

LegionaresCZ

I second this! It's such an impactful ED now that we know what we know.

A couple of things I believe you missed from the episode: — We never hear Ymir speak because, in the scene where she initially gets enslaved, you can see how they cut the tongue off the slaves — The walls of Paradis Island, Rose, Sina, and Maria, are named after Ymir's three daughters — Ymir did actually die from the spear attack while protecting King Fritz, which did make me wonder (when I initially read the manga) if the titan abilities keep evolving and changing over time That was a great reaction, thanks Zen!

Sebastián

I reccomend watching ending 3 again, a lot of the stuff shown in it happened in this episode.

HaukurE
