The first episode explained what each mask represented when he judged the couple and explained where each of them went. The rest of your comment is pretty accurate though.

2022-11-02 21:17:30 +0000 UTCI feel as though Shimada may have continued killing people he deemed worthy of doing so. After, destroying the pucks, he had the same smile as Tatsumi after he succeeded in killed his wife's killer. Shimada could have died in a seperate incident, where he was trying to kill somebody on his list, his new way of life, killing others that "deserve" it, just as Tatsumi had done. Did they both go to the void seeing as only the mask of a demon was shown at the end? Maybe. But who knows what those masks even represent. Why do we assume the void is the red mask? Because it looks like demon? Doesn't that show a flaw in ourselves as well, judging based off looks and preconceived notions? Also, it's fun to look into things, but a similar smile doesn't really mean a thing in the first place, now does it. But inspecting the story of another, similar concepts can be assumed, and we always seem to need an answer. Did the creator of this story even have an answer, an elaborate way to tie everything together, in order to satiate ego in a way. I mean in life, there isn't always logical answers, in fact, never.
