Shirase's reaction when she discovered she had it all along, was priceless. Durian seems a fitting punishment though ("an aroma compared to raw sewage, rotting flesh and smelly gym socks" LOL - pretty sure I'm never going to try it myself). I felt Mari's enthusiasm for flying. I've flown at lot in the past (Europe, Australia, Africa - never been to the Americas though) and I've always been in awe of the tremendous power of jet aircraft at takeoff as they hurl plane, passengers and cargo skywards. Your time in Japan sounds amazing. Pebble (shingle) beaches are quite common actually; there are thousands in my country (UK). Climbing Mt. Fuji sounds a bit too tiring for my tastes, but I have always wanted to see it in person and to ride the 新幹線.
