I finished reading Perfume, a very captivating read. I couldn’t put it down. It really made me think of our sense of smell in a totally different way. I am surprised I had never come across it before. It was definitely a memorable read, great suggestion Michael, thank you.

I just finished Siddhartha and throughly enjoyed it. It is definitely profound as you said. It gave me some things to contemplate. I used to read books similar to it back in college, so it also took me back to those days as well. Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll read Perfume soon. Take care!

I don't read nearly as much as I'd like to but here are two (originally german) books I'd recommend to you:
First is "Siddhartha" by Hermann Hesse (1922). It's a pretty short book (I read it in one sitting) about a young man's journey for enlightenment. It's a profound read imo, it's also very "zen". I honestly can't remember where I've heard about this book, but I bought and read it sometime last year.
Second is "Perfume" (orig. "Das Parfum") by Patrick Süskind (1985). I remember being bored in german class, flipping through my textbook and finding the first chapter of this book printed there. I really enjoyed the teaser back then but didn't buy it until I was reminded of the book this year. I won't say anything about the content except that it's set in France of the 1700s and that indeed perfume is involved. A little fun fact I found when looking up the release year and the english title is that apparently this was one of Kurt Cobain's favourite books which he claimed to have read over ten times in an interview shortly before his death.
Let me know if you do read one of these, if you do I hope you enjoy. Take care
