2023-01-11 00:47:08 +0000 UTCMy take was that the colourful cover pages are meant to contrast with what is genuinely a very drab environment of the manga, even if we don’t see it in colour. I don’t think the colour palette was meant to be bright bin the first place. It is a very dark world, after all. Rather, I think it’s the colourful personalities of the characters that really adds to this dark environment and setting, something much more meaningful than just increasing the saturation or vibrancy.

2023-01-09 19:14:53 +0000 UTCMappa definitely has a muted color look overall, but I think a lot of people were expecting something similar to the manga covers which use very bright and vivid colors (think of those color palette swaps from jojo) so I understand the complaints. As far as trying to imitate the cinematic feel of the manga they did pretty well, I see an honest attempt to be faithful to that.
