I do understand how you would get that impression but I never said "old good new bad", rather the way I see it, these shows would never make it onto a poll like one year from now. Regardless of Zen liking all of them, I don't want to see him get stuck in this loop of always having to watch the newest thing. In my opinion, that's the wrong way to be an anime fan, but feel free to disagree. I'm very happy about LotGH, you're right about that. I thought about joining the highest tier to request something, but they always seem to be sold out. Yeah, I know becoming an active part in this community and advocating for a better balanced media diet in a more agreeable fashion would be more effective, but I'm not the one to do that, I couldn't. Out of all the responses I got I think you made the most effort to actually engage with what I said and thank you for it. Anyway, I'll be around.

It's new, it's current, more people will likely have seen it and can or want to talk about it. I'm going to explain why people would have an issue with your comment. First of all, you didn't just express frustration with the wider community, you complained about it happening here specifically, you said "we" waste time with recent shows and you complained that you can find other reactions to all these shows elsewhere and that you don't see the point in adding one more here, except the point is fairly obvious: Zen hasn't seen it yet. Just because others have seen something and made videos about a topic, doesn't mean Zen can't. To top it off, you say this simultaneously while Zen is reacting to Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Avatar, both quite old shows. That's besides the point though, just because a show is old or new isn't any more of a reason to watch them. If you have something you'd like him to see, suggest it, or pay to request it, or talk about the shows you want to see here and maybe he'll be interested and add it to a poll and others might vote for it. There's a whole channel in the discord specifically for suggestions, for example. There are ways to talk about this subject without having an insulting tone. Even if you didn't aim to insult a specific person, you did insult a whole group of people who DO like to watch and talk about current shows. Now however because of the way you initially addressed the topic, you're much less likely to get people to positively engage with what you're saying.

I didn't criticize him once, since he doesn't exactly choose these shows. I also literally said that I think some recent anime have been very good, I'm thinking of Bocchi for example. Obviously phrasing it as wasting our time was kinda mean but that's why I put in quotes, as it was meant somewhat hyperbolically. And no this is not about personal taste either, I'm not complaining because Zen doesn't exclusively watch what I'm into. In fact most of the time I vote for series I haven't seen yet. I'm okay with shows I don't personally love, as long they're different and interesting. Look, I'll try again to explain what I mean here. The problem isn't even unique to weebs but pretty much universal. It's just everywhere I go I see anime fans who seem utterly uninterested in actually exploring the medium and what it has to offer. All these 95% of people want to talk about is the very latest of shows or the very most popular ones that actually manage to remain in the puplic consciousness, all the while a plethora of amazing anime gets completely buried because they don't appeal to the biggest majority or because people don't want to watch something that looks old etc etc. And it makes me sad. This has been a very exhausting experience, responding to refutations of points I never even made. I don't think I have much more to say but I would still reply to clear whatever up because I honestly don't know what was so upsetting about my original post, in which I insulted no one. All I did was express frustration with the wider community due to most people not being willing to step out of their comfort zone resulting in polls like these that I find boring. Whew

2023-05-18 19:24:28 +0000 UTCWhat an incredibly unnecessary and hostile comment. No one is “wasting their time” here, we are simply here because we enjoy Zen's content, nothing more, nothing less. Taste in anime (and all media for that matter) is subjective, so I find this attitude of “all the masterpieces are old shows” to be absolutely pathetic. There has been incredible shows released in the last few years, some of them I would personally consider better than the “classics”. Now, the beauty of reaction content is that every single content creator reacts differently to whatever they are watching, so to act like adding another reaction to the list is somehow pointless is such an idiotic attitude. Not to mention, Zen has actually reacted to a very decent chunk of older shows, so I don't even understand where this is coming from. All in all, most people seem pretty happy with Zen's content, so if you don't enjoy it, then I have no idea what you are doing here.

The shows on this poll are there because people always clamor for the the latest hotness, but that's an environment where older (often better) anime don't get the attention they deserve. It makes sense but it's also a damn shame. I don't feel like you're seeing where I'm coming from. I don't want to be negative, I even apologized in my original comment. Not like I expect the anime community to change but sometimes you just gotta vent a little and at least try to spread your point of view, you know?

2023-05-18 15:45:22 +0000 UTCI know that's how this always goes, but it's truly frustrating how we continually "waste our time" with these extremely recent shows (some of which are pretty great, don't get me wrong) while there real masterpieces from every decade of anime, which no one knows about. You can already find several reactions to all of these shows, so I don't see the point of adding one more. Sorry, if I'm coming across antagonistically, but I really feel like too many anime fans just fall into this trap of only watching whatever's currently airing and it's unfortunate.
