2023-08-12 14:06:03 +0000 UTCThis episode hits really differently in comparison to the times I saw it as a kid. I think I wasn't able to fully comprehend Zuko's struggle in the series in general. The growth he had during this episode, embracing his identity, is beautiful storytelling. So glad I'm rewatching this after all this time.

2023-08-11 06:00:15 +0000 UTCThis episode has so much to unpack. You nailed it in the discussion when you said Zuko takes after his mother and Azula her father. I think this is only exacerbated by Azula being a natural prodigy at firebending, which would push Ozai to take to Azula instead of Zuko. I can also see at least partially why Ozai is the way he is in seeing Azulon. Then there's the whole other discussion to be had about Azulon "passing away last night" and mysteriously giving his second son the throne after punishing him for suggesting the idea. Hmm I wonder what could have happened to him. Crazy to see this show tackle topics like regicide. Then again, they already covered child abuse and genocide, so maybe not so surprising.
