A good anime opening...? I think a lot of it depends on how much you like the anime itself. A lot of anime do try too hard with their OPs though and end up sounding rather generic. Personally I don't have any particular favorite music styles or genres. Some I've particularly enjoyed are... A Place Further Than the Universe (OP & ED) Asobi Asobase (OP & ED - the contrast is surprising) Diary of our days at the breakwater (OP & ED) Dragon Maid (OPs & EDs from both seasons) Heavenly Delusion (OP & ED) Hinamatsuri (OP) K-On (All OPs and EDs from both seasons) Konosuba (OPs and EDs) Laid back (yuru) camp (OP & ED) Made in Abyss (Just about all the music) Madoka Magica (OP & EDs) Mushoku Tensei (OPs & EDs from both seasons) Nichijou (Both OPs and the first ED) The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (1st ED - a classic) The Promised Neverland - season 1 (OP) Vinland Saga (OPs & EDs) Watamote (OP) ...and probably a bunch of others I've forgotten.

I'm still watching this (and still somewhat enjoying it) - the OP is very addictive too :-) ... ... but I still don't know what it is really about. The focus of the story keeps shifting. At first it's a reincarnation thriller. Then it turns into a murder mystery and revenge story. Then a bit of a high school romance SOL reality show which covers some of the darker sides of the entrainment business - and now an idol wannabe story. The revenge thread seems to be following a very slow path, and feels largely forgotten (which may be a good thing considering the shallowness of its conception). Aqua is one of the most unlikeable and boring (supposedly) MCs I've seen in an anime. Ruby is not much better. Thank goodness for Kana - at least she is a likable character, although why she has an obsession for Aqua is unfathomable. Having said all that, some of the sub plots are quite interesting in themselves, but there just doesn't seem to be any coherent thread to the whole series. Maybe the final episode will bring everything together in some extraordinary satisfying way, but I doubt it. The first episode was so very good, but now seems like it was from a completely different anime. BTW - looks like there will be a second season.

Argh!!!! Such a good episode!! Oshi no Ko gets me so pumped! Answering your question about what makes a good opening to me is a combo of visuals and song… Mostly song though. I’m a huge nerd so I save a lot of Anime openings in my playlist… and when I think about them I think about the incredible show I watched! Some of my favs has to be Oshi no Ko, Csm, and Jujutsu Kaisen!
