Building a ritual

I'm thankful to have Co-Director Lauren Hlubny at my side to start the creative process and world building for the cast. Last night we introduced each dancer's solo poetry and investigated movement possibilities. Utilizing a "translator" the dancer would move with the intention that the person speaking was translating their movement into their given poetry. We built onto this exercise by creating a sort of ritual, when someone stepped forward ready to speak the group would respond, welcoming their voice. The dancer would check in with the group as they danced to see if they understood, making sure the translator was translating properly. When finished the group would welcome the dancer back in, thanking them for their honesty and bravery. These are a few still shots from the experience.
