COMIC: I am turning 39 this month

Matt and I are on the road so I was reduced to creating this comic as my foremothers did in the Stone Age: with paper and pen and “scanning” it in by taking photos of each panel on my phone.

This is a comic discussing my own body-negative thoughts I have about myself as I’m tiptoeing up to middle-age.

This is a really vulnerable subject for me and I am not at all proud of or endorsing my body-negative thoughts that I shared here about my own body. If you had a strong negative emotional reaction to my personal internalized fears and shames about the changes that are starting to show up in my body, please do another activity for an hour or so before you share your negative feelings with me. I recognize my ageist, fatphobic thoughts and it’s something I do my best to unpack and unlearn on my own with the people who love me and understand where I’m coming from.
Actually, you know what I would really appreciate?
Tell me what you have learned to love about your body as it changes.
You don’t have to have mastered that love, it can be something you’re presently learning. It doesn’t have to be love! What do you like? What have you made peace with? What do you respect? What do you accept? What does a good-enough job so you barely think about it?
The thing I am most enjoying about my body aging is how fucking thick my curves are getting. My hips, my ass, my thighs? Fuckin’ A+, my friends. I regularly lay on my back with my bare legs raised straight up over me and just wobble my thick-ass thigh meat so I can marvle at the shockwaves and rippling that spreads across them.

When I was 15 or 16 and had an ed, my thighs were such a source of stress for me. I hated how they looked and how "fat" they made me look. Now, I'm 21 and they make me look sexy. They give my body some shape, they remind me that I'm eating now.

2024-04-13 19:34:46 +0000 UTCI found my first grey hair among all the dark brown curls at 15 or 16. There are so many silver threads on the top of ym head now at 32. They drive me crazy when stubbornly sticking straight up, but apart from that: I own that grey! I like the new contrasts. I am proud of getting a pretty silvery grey, neither dull nor yellow. People still take me as a university student from time to time. A good reminder that the others usually don't even notice the details you fret about (:
