Explaining how I pick my tunings for arrangements

I did my best to explain it, I promise! It's quite theoretical so I'm not necessarily the most outspoken person on this topic, but I think it's a really interesting topic, especially from an outside view on this style - as changing tunings in general is not really a usual thing in guitar.
As a sort of two sentence summary: I have a bunch of open tunings which I'm familiar with, and based on the harmony of the track I'm arranging I make decisions which one to pick. It boils down to two things: where is the 3rd in the tuning (which string is the 3rd scale degree), and what is the lowest note I need in the song (is it the tonic, is it the dominant, something else?)
