PATRON UPDATE: Writing & The Future

Hey everybody,

This isn't a major update by any means - I just figured it's been a minute, and wanted to keep everybody in the loop. I've been writing like a madman on the Koudelka + Shadow Hearts script, which has been quite different than anything I've written. What was originally meant to be a more straightforward retrospective has ended up as a pretty in-depth character study. As I was writing, I found that the characters of Koudelka are the aspect of the game I'm most interested in. Shadow Hearts' segment comes across as more the review/analysis that I'm used to writing. It has more of a comparative angle as I look at it in context as a sequel rather than a standalone game. I'm almost finished writing now, which means I'll be ready to record narration & edit shortly. The video will probably be a bit longer than 90 minutes. I appreciate your patience!

After this, I'm going to do another lighthearted deep-dive. Turns out that writing about a group of depressed, ostracized & cynical individuals really knocks the wind out of your sails. I'm thinking about doing something with the Phillips CD-I... An "every RPG" video would be about 3 minutes long, but I think I think it's worth digging around for treasure. Let me know what you think.

As always, thank you for your support! I'm looking forward to editing soon. Hope you're having a great spring.

Damn, I blink my eyes and the 3DO video is bearing down on the Dragoon one and you've jumped to 40k subs. Looking forward to Koudelka/Shadow Hearts!

Oh you mean “lunch time”?

Joe!! You'll have to move to Australia where it's only 1:00 AM when I start streaming, that's a reasonable hour.

Majuular

I just just wish you’d stop streaming at such on ungodly hour. How can I join you if you’re streaming before mid-afternoon when sane people are up?? ;) Mayo snakes rule

Awesome, really appreciate this list! I'm definitely going to look into some of these.

It's hard to come up with a cohesive theme for an omnibus CD-i review because there are so few games for it that are actually worth playing. With that in mind I put together a list of games whose only unifying feature is that they might be interesting to talk about: - Burn Cycle. It almost feels too obvious to mention because I remember it being, like, THE CD-i game, but I guess that was a long time ago. - Atlantis: The Last Resort, the only true FPS on the CD-i and a CD-i exclusive. - Dark Castle, an infuriatingly clunky and difficult platformer. I liked it when I was a kid though. - Defender of the Crown and Lords of the Rising Sun, both Cinemaware classics (a Cinemaware retrospective would be pretty cool, incidentally) - Lost Eden, an FMV adventure game with great art (and some banger music). - Monty Python's Invasion from the Planet Skyron. I mean, it's a CD-i exclusive Monty Python game. - Kingdom: The Far Reaches and Kingdom II: Shadoan, animated FMV adventure games by the creator of Dragon's Lair (not Don Bluth). Hbomberguy already did a great video on these but I'd love to hear another perspective on them. - Laser Lords, a wacky claymation FMV adventure platform game thing. This should be higher, really. Honorable mentions: Inca 1 and 2, Kether, Litil Divil, Voyeur, Shaolin's Road, The Apprentice (no affiliation with a certain former US president).

Anything phillips CDi would be great. I don't see a lot about it when browsing, except for the Nintendo games on there. Would happily take a 3 minute "cdi rpg" video though. It would pair nicely with a costco muffin.
