I wonder what their relationship is? Old friends? Family?

relationships are hard, dude. Caring for people hurts when you try to defend them from themselves

Definitely something I can see both sides on. On one hand, Emile was trying to protect a young queer kid, and was willing to sacrifice his own job and reputation to do so, and I think Margot recognizes and appreciates that. On the other hand, had Matéo not spoken up, Emile would have been labeled as a pedophile, which would have been a huge scandal for not only him, but also Margot and the school as a whole for hiring him. He certainly had the noblest of reasons, but the ramifications would have been very severe had this gone any other way

Here is the warning I knew was coming. Margot is in a position that is constantly under attack from all sides, and as much as they agree with Emile, they still have to factor in the opinions of everyone, no matter how wrong. Emile did the right thing, but the right thing isn't always right in that moment. He got lucky this time, I hope he doesn't push it too far in the future.

Emile stayed quiet for noble reasons - because he thought that honouring a promise he made, and refusing to out a kid against his will, was more important than clearing his own name.
But still, you can understand the headteacher's anger here.
