Pre-supports for resin...on FDM!
Added 2020-10-15 18:59:49 +0000 UTC
As you can see here, I've tested our pre-supported lizardfolk on my stock Ender 3, and it worked quite good!
I printed him in 0.12 layer height, for testing purpose so it's a bit rough, but the underside of it where the supports were are quite clean for FDM, compared to my usual supports.
I won't say that it will work 100% of the time on all printers, but I think it's doable as you can see! The supports were very easy to remove, where they met the model they pop off just by pushing lightly on them with the nail, the harder part was to cut the outer ''shell'' without bending the handcuffs!
I'm going to release the pre-supports for this model in a few moments, just wanted to show you this before!
Have fun :D
Oh, forgot to mention: I've only recently joined this Patreon, so I have only printed one other model (twice).
The tabaxi Merchant, at 0,12mm and 0,8mm. Both came out great on the first try.
I print with a 0.4mm nozzle, but am planning to get a 0.2 for minis.

Did two tests. One presupported and one with supports from Cura.
I printed at 87,5 percent because I have everything in 28mm scale.
I have two ender3s and printed both files at the same time.
The presupported one came out relatively well, but took about three hours at 0.8mm
Only problem was some stringing, but that is a temperature issue not a file issue.
This makes it dificult to see how good the print actually comes out though, because it messes up the detail. This was perhaps also the reason why I had difficulties getting the supports off, which another Patron apparently had no issues with.
The other one had some failures, but printed in 1,5 hour (Which actually is the same speed as the supportless ones for me).
The sword got messed up and for some reason one of the legs was not attached, as if it broke off. But the print still continued anyway.
However, there was no stringing, interestingly enough. Even though both printers print at the same temperatures and speed etc.
So, I will have now have to test the presupported one on the other printer and vice versa.
I'll probably do that tomorrow though.
I'll update as I continue and send pictures at the end of it all.

Printed two last night at 0.1 on my prusa. The supports came off way cleaner and easier than any generated supports would.

This was clearly a ''for science'' print :D Quite surprised it worked that nicely!

Resin supports are hit or miss with FDM printers. I have seen people use chitubox and the like to create supports specifically for fdm printing. I haven't tried it myself.

And it's 0.12 layer height! Usually I do 0.08! Far from resin but not tooo bad for sure!

I print the minis in resin, but that is some amazing detail for FDM!

you mean this one FDG_Cura4_6_Mini_4mmNozzle_V1-11.curaprofile at https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vr9lkpjt6zw7s8s/AAAX7QrBIKYzxluA3ZpDVvjva/Cura%204.6?dl=0&subfolder_nav_tracking=1?
Thanks for the feedback beforehand, and I understand that the model isn't supportless. I just rather everything supportless :)

This model isn't supportless, so won't work without supports! It's ender 3 pro , the V1. Basic FatDragonGame profile!

Which ender 3? And Could I have the profile? I have an ender 3 v2 myself and I rather without supports, but I can give a try.
