Please read! What are the plans for the future, and why we're late AGAIN!

Hello everyone, Jonathan here :D

As I said last post, we have some important points to discuss :

1st, the elephant in the room : Why are VVM late again?!

We're extremely sorry for this, believe me, it's NOT fun for us at all to be this far behind schedules . As you know, last month was rough, and it unfortunately took a big hit on the mental health side of things. Mathilde was in a big burnout / depression pit and was unable to work for several days, and myself wasn't in really a better shape.

No worries though, you'll get your full release! I'll be sending Patreon messages with the Googe drive link before end of the month, so even if you leave our Patreon, you can't miss it, and obviously the MMF redeem links will be send, even if you leave, the mailing list is saved, so no worries to have :D

2nd : How we'll be managing Patreon starting next month!

These past months, managing Patreon has been very hard. With Covid, some life stuff happening, competition being extremely rude these past months it made running this Patreon a rough stressful experience. It has taking up most of our awake time, and it's far from being healthy.

We discussed all of this, and we're going to implement some tweaks, to hopefully make it better for us and for you :

-Sceneries : These past months I started the month creating a huge list of props, writing everyone's idea, and it was huge stress for me. Competition being hard, the pressure to create more is real, and it clearly doesn't work that well for me.

I didn't like any release I did on my side of things in the past 6 month or so. I tried to do too much too quickly ,and ended up burned out every month and in the end giving stuff I wasn't happy about, and doing only a fraction of the list.

I want to change that : I'll be doing smaller list, but I want to create GOOD stuff, I'll give some good attention to the models, to offer unique and interesting props. I don't think the sceneries release will be smaller, it might be roughly the same volume, but from the start I'll know that I will be focussing on that reduced list, and it'll probably be good stress wise!

-Characters : As you may have seen, this month I sculpted a character again (the unded highwayman). And it's really refreshing for me to do so.

Starting May, I'll be sculpting at least 1 character per month, to reduce Mathilde's workload, and to myself have some fun with it. This way, we'll both be able to give more attention to the models.

Over time, spreading the workload this way will permit us to add more characters without putting additional stress on ourselves!

-Bases : I'll be honest here, bases are boring me to absolute death. We did stones, dirt, bricks, sand, and it's kinda running out of basics option. I'll try to find a way to make it work better for me, maybe doing less but more diorama / exposition oriented bases. Not sure yet, we'll see in May how it goes!

Sooo, that's pretty much it! I hope you'll still stick around even though it has been really messy recently! I know we'll do way better in the future!

Thanks again for your great support, everyone on the Discord and here who has been very kind to us, you know who you are, and your help is invaluable! <3

Take care everyone, have a great week :D

99% of the reason I sub to you guys is props and scenery. I've got tons of minimakers, but you guys are my only scatter patreon I support besides loot studios. As long as I'm still getting great scatter, that's all I'm worried about. Besides, I support so many patreons, I never noticed your stuff being late.. I get the release on mmf and that works perfectly for me.

Auluaden Bartolli

Bases suck anyway. ;)

Alastair Christie

Thank you very much for the kind words and to be understanding! I can understand that from the exterior it doesn't seem to have dropped, but personally I was always frustrated and really not happy with what I was giving to you all. We'll be taking it a bit more lightly, trying to be in a better work mood, and I think it'll be better :D Really excited for May, so I can start fresh and do cool stuff! Indeed Covid is really taking a huge toll on everyone, take care too! Thanks a lot again!

Good point :D Noted!! Diorama can be nice for sure!

I love the miniatures that you create. You both have a fantastic style that looks great and is fun to paint. As a supporter and subscriber I want to believe that I am helping you do what you love and getting to see your fantastic creations. If you need to take time off, release less miniatures, or stop releasing bases then please do any or all of these things. I want your monthly Patreon service to be a win-win for you both and also us supporters. I haven't noticed any drop in the quality of your releases. Each month I'm excited to see what you produce. Heck, a couple of times I wasn't especially excited about the theme of the month, until I saw what you had created! Please take care of yourselves. None of us want you to be driven to extremity or burnout. The worst outcome would be if you stopped producing your beautiful creations! If you both staying healthy and succeeding as artists requires it, then I'm happy to get just a couple miniatures a month. This pandemic has been brutal for myself and many others too. Don't feel alone or isolated, the hardships of the past year have affected nearly everyone. Again, I think that your style and the life that you breath into your miniatures is brilliant. I like your style more than any other 3D sculptors out there. Take care of yourselves. None of us want to see you stop making miniatures, and be left to talk about Vae Victis Miniatures as that amazing studio that used to be.

Scavvon

I have enough bases, I love your minis and stuff

Jose

Small bases are plenty on thi...se, and they aren't bad. One diorama-like base per month would still be appreciated...

Eric Matecki

Forget bases. Seriously not needed and everyone has a basic base by now. Just keep them in a folder and reuse them.

Matt S

Yeah I know that it's quite polarizing! Next two months will be the 2 winners of the polls I think. After that we'll see, but removing them completely is probably going to happen at some point to test and judge the reactions!

About the polls id stop doing them. They are more of a source of frustration/anxiety for me than anything else. You can hate me all you want but i prefer being honest about it: iv voted almost every month for my third choice just to try to block themes i have no use for, and that suck. When it come to things that are too niche i barely end up printing anything. Theres diorama people and theres combat people and sadly both dont mix very well together. Id prefer if you would just stop the polls because i trust you for doing a good mix of the two over time and you'll be able to choose a theme that you enjoy making.

Nick

Don't be so hard on yourself. I've enjoyed many of your releases time and time again. Maybe take a little time off to recoup and relax a little. Best Wishes and please relax I know how burnout and all the things that are associated from it.

John C.

I agree with so many of the positive remarks here. We don't want you guys to burnout and we really dig what you're doing. When I first started 3D printing, I didn't have any bases but it didn't take long to amass a buvket load. Maybe put some of your bases in the Welcome pack. Reduce your workload and stay well. All the best.

Jimmy Trinket

Thanks for the input! Though no worries, polls options are themes we like, so it's never annoying to do them! But yes I don't think they can stay forever, as it can creates frustration for people in the end. We might get the 2 best options this time, and see how it goes! Thanks a lot for the support !!!

Yeah that wouldn't be bad for sure! I think it'll be better, let's see how May goes :D Thanks for the support Chris!!

Happy to hear, and wished everyone in the printing community would see it as a steal too, that would remove some pressure haha! Thanks a lot!

Yeah the basics seems to have been done, so I'll probably try fewer but cooler ones! Thank you for being supportive!!!

Thank you!!! I really want to offer better looking props, so I'll do my best in May to do that :D

Thanks :D Happy to hear, thank you for the kind words!!! We'll see for may how bases go haha, doesn't looks like it's a priority for anyone!

Thank you!!! Really glad we have some great support here! Noted for the bases, they indeed doesn't sound like the thing people want the most haha!

Noted! Yeah it seems bases are really the last thing people print, so allocation the energy elsewhere might not be dumb! Thank you for the support!!!

Thanks a lot, appreciate the support! Noted for bases, I think May I'll go easy on them and see the reactions haha!

Really appreciate the kinds words regarding style and trust :D It was pretty fun to see people not wanting Western and then being like dammit I'll get back for it haha! It's not a bad idea for polls! Even though all the options we put are stuff we would like to do, so it's never a chore to get one or the other! Good point about variants and reposing of combat minis, we'll keep that in mind and see how it could bring more options without adding too much work! Thanks again!!!

I'll see in may how I can manage the base side of things, if I want to continue it or tweak or whatever :D Thanks for the support!!!

If you don't like doing bases, don't do the bases :) Just find a way to make this work more fun and less exhausting for you both. Don't worry about us, your health is the most important.

Vassago

It's more of a refining than big change in the end, but it's really needed to provide better stuff in the future! I personnaly feel I wasn't giving what I could!

We'll try :D Thanks for the support and the great paintjob you share with us!

Thanks a lot for the support :D Glad you like her!

Yes the welcome pack including a selection of bases isn't a bad idea at all! I'll see for May how it'll goes, if I find a middle ground, or diorama bases, but clearly it doesn't seem to be a huge interest for the majority! Thanks a lot!

I love all of your stuff and don't want any of you to burn out, so please do what you love and don't mind the release schedule, I don't mind it at all =) Concerning bases.. I almost never print them, mostly because I have a ton of plastic ones and prefer to decorate the myself in the same style for all minis. Probably a welcome pack with all the base themes will free you from having to include a set with every release?

Danil

just joined a minute ago, because that cowgirl is just amazing ;-) Don't drive yourselves off a cliff, be kind to yourselves and take your personal needs seriously. These times are challenging for everybody, I marvel at what you have achieved so far and am looking forward to what might come in the future.

You guys are doing a fantastic job, don't be too harsh with yourself and take the time to enjoy !

don't change . just do you same HQ work you always done from the start. If you need to take time off I understand.

Ray Dwigans

Guys, you're being too hard on yourselves. There is this huge pressure on creative enterpreneurs - and artist who are trying to turn their hobby into a profitable job - to be always present, to create more and faster...but your health should always come first. As for your hectic release schedule, I personally don't mind it at all, in fact I enjoy seeing your WIPs and updates scattered throughout the month...Partly because I know your style and know, that whatever the theme may be, you're very consistent and really never disappoint, so - as opposed to most other/bigger patreons - I can trust in your vision...And I think the western theme - which a lot of people seem to have been sceptical about at first - proved, that you guys can indeed, be trusted to make some super creative, yet consistent stuff out of whatever theme. So I think you could ditch the polls or make them fewer in-between; Take the top 3 results or work on whatever you're the most inspired by that month. Also, honestly, some of the comments under the polls are downright depressing to read, too, so cutting those out might reduce the pressure of having to please everyone. As for the bases, well, I do love a good thematic base, but they aren't a priority. More creatively detailed diorama bases are a great idea but if the theme doesn't call for those, you could, perhaps recycle some older bases that fit the theme and add them as extra content or something and put your creative energy into whatever else, like an other character or even thematic scatter that could be used to upgrade those already existing bases. Ah, this it getting overly long, but people seem to like variants too, so I guess some 'race variants' and reposes could be a fun addition as well, especially with the more combat-y themes.

Lynoire

Everything has looked stellar, the release timings don't worry me and as many others have stated the mental health of you two is more important in the end. Thank you for time, dedication and craft. Please take care and as long as I feel a creator is communicating with his audience that adds a lot of value to me. P.S. personally i don't need Bases.

I love your work and I'm here for the characters. I've never printed a base, and only recently printed some props, which are pretty cool. Take care of yourself and just try to enjoy it.

Enrique Avalos

You are doing a great job! Don't beat yourself up about it! Been loving all the releases including the terrain which I have been orinting more and more of!!! Hope you and Matilde will get to regrouo and recover a bit! <3

Matija Andrić

I love your bases and use them every month but I agree with you that you’ve covered most of the basic categories. I really like your idea of doing more diorama type stuff. I’ve been getting more into the diorama side of things recently. I hope you can both find a time to get some rest. You do great work and it’s much appreciated. Hope you’re taking care of yourselves.

Brandon Blewett

Don't worry! :) You guys do awesome work at $10 a month is a freaking steal for the cool stuff you guys make! Don't feel bad and don't pressure yourself to make more stuff. Do what you can, when you can. I wouldn't expect more than 40hrs a week from both of you even if it means half the minis! You deserved to be happy and healthy :) and if you need to take a break, take a break.

Personally, I hope you're able to focus on the parts you enjoy. I'd 100% support a smaller release filled with elements you're able to really pour into it.

Some dude who paints

As Creators You need to do what inspires you. I support quite a few patreons and I have found that fewer and fewer of them are doing polls and their numbers are not dropping. I think maybe you all need to stop worring about polls and just put out whatever inspires you each month and I assure you as long as you keep doing the lovely fantasy inspired, personality driven characters and great props your numbers will not drop. Heck I don't even think you even really have to have a theme just do what inspires you as long as you don't switch to creepy monsters and/or hard sci-fi I will be here for you as much as I can (I am cutting back for financial reasons) but if I drop out occasionally its not because of anything you are doing. Most of the heavy hitters don't use polls anymore that allows them to be inspired by their work, and to get ahead by preplanning in advance.

Lisa Kellogg

New subscriber, I love your work. I can't believe how much ya'll have produced and understand your desire for quality over quantity. I guess as bases go, I don't think I will use them 😀. Most importantly stay healthy both mentally and physically. I respect your work and would hate to see you burn out .

John Fredin

I am going to repeat an earlier sentiment and say that the bases really don't add much to me, so I think you shouldn't be too attached to them. I actually do prefer printed detailed bases, but as you said there is only so much you can do with a generic base. I am a huge fan of your work and would rather you two take care of yourselves. It's better for us if you slow down for a month or two than to lose this patreon altogether. You do what's best for both of you.

Means a lot Scott!! Really glad we have a great community behind us! Would be possible without it for sure! We'll be doing our best to get back on our feets properly, so everything can be smooth sailing! We'll be going into May with less pressure for sure, all these comments has been great!

Yep, doing generic minions and reposing them as been an idea I had for a while if I were to do miniatures. Depending the theme, that would be too bad at all! For sure for bandits and stuff like that it works prefectly!

Yeaaah honestly stopping or pausing has been discussed, and as it's our main livehood, it wouldn't be fun and would clearly be dangerous, so it's no ideal at all haha! Thanks a lot for the supportive words!

Noted! Usuuually it would take me more time to do a mini than bases, but yeah, if I don't have big inspiration, it could be a nice trade! Even on the stores they sell way less than minis, so it's far from a bad idea in the end if we do less but put more work in the rest.

Not a bad idea yeah!! We'll see how I can manage that for May! Maybe having a bit less random ones but craft more interesting ones! And little props to glue on it or something.

It's encouraging to read the comments above me. I think most (if not all of us), are not only fans of your minis and terrain, but of you two as well. I'm saddened to hear of the lows you have been experiencing lately. I only know to encourage both of you to do what's right for yourselves first, as it's been repeated many times above. It's no fun to print and paint minis that others had to suffer for. I wish the both of you happier days this next month!

Scott M.

Thanks a lot Fred!!! Means a lot!

Thanks a lot! And that's some great points! Regarding the top three results, that's not dumb at all, we might take the 2 best this time, and then see how it goes! ''Design a theme or two ahead of time and keep it in the back burner for when you have those creative blocks.'' That's 2000% what we wanted to do, but then with the already present burnout it was impossible to reach! We'll be working on that as soon as we can manage our monthly release without being in a really big rush!

I don't think you need bases in every release. If you are looking to add value to releases, but save some work, I would be quite content with additional pose options on the models, especially for some of the generic ones. Like the hooded thieves from last month.

Joseph McGuire

As a very happy subscriber, take care of yourself & your art will reflect that!! if we have a few less models for a bit? ok, we have a few less models. I would rather have less than you end up having a breakdown and get none! Make sure you guys get some "me" time in all of this!!

Victoria Sanders

I dont think iv ever printed a base before. I prefer the basic one and decorate it myself. Id gladly trade all bases for 1 more mini.

Nick

Bases aren't very important in my opinion. It's cool to have specialized ones every now and then but more general bases are preferable to me. Maybe save special bases for special models like big bad guys. The undead highwayman is one of my favorite models too, good job my dude. I look forward to what else you can make.

Be safe and stay healthy, both mentally and physically

Fred Novy

I really love all your work, I think you might being a little hard on yourself. I would like you to consider a few observations: 1. Loyal fans are going to stick around. I support ten other patreons so if your work comes at the end of the month it gives me something to catch up on. No big deal to me. 2. Please take the top three results from your poll every month and release them in order of popularity. This will give you time to really think about what you want to do with that tavern brawl you have sixty days to deliver on instead of just a few weeks. 3. Design a theme or two ahead of time and keep it in the back burner for when you have those creative blocks. As a creative person, I know the ebbs and flows of writers block. It sucks but I think if you reduced your monthly polls and worked on three themes at a time, your work flow and stress could lower. Wishing you all the best, and I’m staying with you even though I hated the idea of western at first I’m really loving the sculpts you are making!

Eric Lee

Thank you! Really really appreciated! We're glad we have great people supporting us that are very understanding! I'm very pumped about doing characters each months, going to be fun :D

Your health is important, so I'm glad to hear you're looking at finding a way to continue your craft while improving your mental health. I absolutely love the work you two do and would hate to see it go due to mental burn out.

Paul West
