On the topic modularity and future plans : What do you think?
Added 2022-01-11 11:44:37 +0000 UTC Hello everyone, Jon here!
Thanks so much to everyone for answering our polls yesterday and giving your opinions in the comments, always extremely useful!
We talked about it with Mathilde and Nick, and I want to give you my thoughts about it!
From what we gathered, modularity seems important to quite a bit of people :D
As we had already planned, I'll continue doing modularity for the future sets (and also pre-built for people who don't like it!)
BUT, I don't think I can realisticaly made the future sets compatible with December and January set, for various reasons, the body types, races, complexity of designs etc, it can't work (Let's think orcs, goblins, smaller or bigger frames etc...).
Depending what the themes will be, I think we'll alternate between modular hands, or modular arms.
It was my 1st time doing it this way, and I think I would like to test another way of doing modular arms in the future that could give better results.
But I don't think it'll be an issue, a sword is a sword, I'll just redo the same weapons when it happens, so no matter what you still get the same sort of options.
In the following months we'll probably do a V3 for the current ''Frostgrave'' set, these ones will be fully compatible don't worry! And in the future we'll also do bandits, cultist etc.
I know people loved the FG theme, but we also can't get stuck into being a proxy Patreon! We have many more things that we want to explore, as we did before, and we don't want to limit ourselves!
Let us know what you think :D
Thanks again for your great feedback, back to work!

Very much prefer pre-configured, complete miniatures. Having both is a good option to take care of everyone.

2022-01-12 06:27:55 +0000 UTCI really like having modular Heads and Arms for figures since you can really create a variety of poses with just a few mirrored options and some posing. That being said, one of my favorite things about your sculpts in particular is the amount of individual character they have, so I think a mix of both would be best! Also, I wouldn't worry too much about compatibility between different races, but I'd try to nail down what modular system you're going to use (flat, ball joint, key, etc) and then we can always just rescale arms to fit and past or future releases ourselves like some other modelers do. Loving the releases so far!
2022-01-12 04:04:59 +0000 UTCI'm a big fan of the modular figures. It's a huge value add for me. That being said I don't think that compatibility with other sets is all that important. It's nice if you can manage it but I would spend a lot of time on that. really all you need to have is an empty fist and a selection of the weapons and accessories without hands. That way you can combine them in Meshmixer or similar program and use the weapons with any set.

2022-01-12 00:59:21 +0000 UTCI’m not a huge fan of modular with resin minis. Can’t seem to find a decent glue. One of things I love about your patreon is you can just load the plate and print. Gluing arms and heads is okay occasionally, but I enjoy the 1 piece prints. I think instead of the blank base print you could put them on the wood base or flagstone base as well.

2022-01-11 20:10:00 +0000 UTCI really like the new format, with a few marquee characters and several goblins or mercenaries or whatever. I kinda hope to see some bigger adversaries in the future, like a few trolls or ogres or a dragon or something, but I’m looking forward to whatever comes.

2022-01-11 15:47:27 +0000 UTCthis sounds great!
2022-01-11 15:22:47 +0000 UTCModular is great with a premade. It really is the best of both worlds. And as James says, don't worry about mixing all older sets. Just humans are mostly compatible with human-type figures. Goblins are mostly compatible with goblins. . I personally prefer modular arms as I feel I get more variant poses.

2022-01-11 14:20:06 +0000 UTCI don't think you have to worry about sets being backwards compatible. Like if you make Orcs, don't worry about making parts for older sets. But if you make more humans in future, it is a great bonus if the heads fit old sets etc.
2022-01-11 13:05:18 +0000 UTCYep best of both worlds premades and Modular. Personally I like to assemble modular models in chitubox and then support them to suit my printer.
2022-01-11 11:58:12 +0000 UTCSeems to be the best of both worlds yeah :D Thanks a lot!!
2022-01-11 11:53:40 +0000 UTCI like that you’re willing to do premades in addition to your modular stuff; that is appreciated. Looking forward to what you do next!
