April teaser : New modular system!

Hey everyone!

Proper render for the 1st guard, and also showing you how the modular system will work!

As you can see I went for a more classic flat sections, that we can see on many wargaming models out there!

It's already way easier for me to work with this system, and I believe will offer more natural poses and variety in the end!

Stay tuned :D

proper render looks great!

Yeah understandable, but as I explained in a previous posts few months back regarding modular minis, I wasn't planning on having all future set work together, and majority of comments were ok with that. As it's mostly generic weapons, as long as you have them on both sets, it works I guess!! I gotta test and see what is best, while 1st system with pegs was nice, I think it can look better!

As I said in my post few months ago about modular minis, I don't think all sets can use the same system, sometimes. Beasts and monsters works better with only hands, humanoids work fine with arms. I gotta test to see what is ''my'' best solution, as it was the 1st time I did it with the arms pegs! I bet if you take the average of what most people will pose with pegs, it's probably near what a fixed arm would be, otherwise it looks just weird, arms can only go a certain way until it's unatural. In the end, I'll do most options that were available with the previous sets, generic weapons, so it's not really missing important stuff. No doing modular heads also helps with more interesting design with hairs, hats, beard, that was very limitated to have heads separated. Still, I'm excited for this set, and I think it'll be cool, even though it can't use previous arms, but a sword is a sword, not too huge of a deal :D

I'll add that if there was an increase in arm options (arms raised as well as an curved arm, and a pointing arm) could help solve the limits of set to set compatibility. I hate complaining without providing a possible solution.

I'm of the same boat as killmeforprizes, I missed the 2 mercenary sets but loved the cultist so I was planning on picking up the two sets I missed to add "parts" to my miniature builds. (I have other sculptors similar modular sets as well) The moving to a flat joint makes me question if I'd be interested in you modular sets moving forward.

Good points - especially on the socket lip limits. I guess the only real issues I have then is that it makes them incompatible with the previous modular (and vice versa) sets "out of the box" - but only a little work to fix that on my end.

In a way yes, but let me explain why I think it'll be better in the end. Rounds pegs need clearance around the arm for it to work, so the lip of the socket isn't 0.001 mm thin. Which means it's always a bit more thick around the shoulder as it would normaly be. At least with the way I did before, because it started as winter gear and was a bit thicker. And as it's a ball joint, there is obviously a maximum it can go before touching the body, or the lip of the socket preventing the arm to go further.it So it's limitating the rotation anyway, and prevents extreme posing like arm raise up , because to accommodate for the ball it would offset the arm too much. There is only a certain way an arm can move before in starts looking weird, and I think it's better to have one clean posed arm, that is more natural looking, than one a bit more generic that offers slightly more degrees of tilt and rotation.

I know it's easier to do but flat joints really limit pose-ability.
