Modular Forest

Mud sticks to your boots as you pass under the canopy of old growth. Dappled light pours down from above, illuminating the soggy trail and the dew-sprinkled foliage upon the forest floor. The sound of a rushing stream is accompanied by the flute-like trills of a singing thrush.

I really enjoyed the modular dungeon tiles I put out in the Labyrinth map set a while back, and after a few really nice hikes I felt inspired to apply the same format to wilderness encounter maps. The result is a series of 41 individual 10x10 forest encounter maps, with 3 large variants of a 50x50 map created using a number of the tiles as a base.

It was admittedly a little grueling but this time I also wanted to try out adding dynamic lighting to each one of the map tiles in the Foundry module rather than simply on the larger maps. Even though 10x10 is pretty small, many groups may still find the individually-configured tiles useful in a pinch for a quick random encounter. CR 8 folks, please let me know if you have any opinions on this as it might determine how I handle this sort of content in future releases.

Additionally, I have decided to start rolling assets into my map releases with some regularity as an added bonus to all patrons in the CR 5 and above tiers. It’s my hope that sharing my asset collection as I build it will provide extra versatility for GMs as well as for those licensing my maps for their own publications.
