NEW VIDEO: How a Cow Saved Millions of Lives

Few of the monsters that evolution created have been so successful at hurting us as the variola virus, responsible for smallpox. The carnage it caused was so terrible and merciless that it compelled humankind, for the first time, to act truly globally. It was one of the greatest wins of our species over the ancient powers of nature, all made possible by… cows.

Not as bad as amo

Same for me

Matt

Thanks for explaining it so well! I've had the rule baked into me from a young age but I never knew how to express it grammatically.

Innes Tam-Morris

For English learners, it is not grammatical in English to double up on "superlatives" (e.g., most, best, worst) the way it is in many other languages. "deadliest" means "most deadly" so to say "most deadliest" is grammatically like saying "most most deadly."

But hey, don't let Big Vax tell you anything! If you get bit by a bat, use a juice cleanse! Or drink your own pee! Or something. (Consider it evolution in action.)

Patrick W. Gilmore

I was also ... want to say "annoyed", but not that strong, by the "most deadliest".

Patrick W. Gilmore

I did not see what the deadliest virus is? I'm guessing the plague? If you only look at "percent of people contracting the virus who die", I think it is rabies - which has a 100.0% chance of death absent the vaccine (rounded to the nearest 0.1%).

Patrick W. Gilmore

*shudder* The sheer wholesale deadliness of things like smallpox and polio make me very, very glad I was born in the era of vaccines. Excellent video, thankyou.

So... I now I need a cowpox plushie and a cowpox phone background.

Great video as usual, love immune system ones!! Not to be that guy, just wanted to point out the title should be "Most Deadly" or "Deadliest" grammatically.

Awesome!
