The other thing is that, IF Blofeld was able (not willing, *able*) to just shoot Bond with a gun, he wouldn't be Blofeld in the first place. It's like saying "Oh but Hitler would have been fine if he hadn't invaded Russia and insisted on stupid giant tanks" or "Elon Musk could do good if he wasn't a thieving narcissitic dipshit" - they become the man they are and acceed to the power they have BECAUSE of those things, not in spite of them. For better or worse, people respect a giant stupid megalomaniac with a volcano base and they want to give them money and resources ; while the efficient, lean, only slightly egotripping Kronsteens of the world just get Klebbed.

This was one of the greater bond episodes. That said, I feel like the "Why doesn't Blofeld just shoot him with a gun ?!" rant misses the point. If you shoot Bond with a gun and extort 100 millions dollars on a 10k budget, the best you can hope for is 2 stars on Hench(tm) with comments like "no flair, shit service, absence of style", my man. They'll give you swirlies in the piranha tank at the next S.P.E.C.T.R.E meeting.

Pulled out the movie to watch, and I noticed one little detail, the wheels on the rocket platform at 1:40:38 don't work very well, some are stuck, some are actually going backwards to the direction of movement. It's only a couple of seconds but I thought it was hilarious particularly with the hyped music going on. Also there are things like a farm tractor at the bottom of the set just sitting around unexplained, what's that doing there?

Look...Donald Pleasance may be giving a weird performance, but I would argue that character actors turning up to play villains and doing whatever crazy shit they want is one of the primary joys of the Bond series. I also have a huge soft spot for Pleasance because he spent the 1980s turning up to give strange performances in any shitty Italian horror film that asked him to. The poor man was in both Nosferatu in Venice and Paganini Horror.

Just wanted to say that listening to this podcast pretty much single handedly made me realize that I'm trans, and that the hosts' comfort in their gender identities made me understand that it was worth actually embracing it. worth the 7.50 cover charge, 10/10 would come here again

I cannot believe that they actually had ninja consulting on this movie. Bujinkan lineage holder Masaaki Hatsumi advised, his students performed in the film, and the best they could do remains a Team America-esque makeover to make him look Japanese. "Look Japanese" here being a phrase that means "taping his eyebrows up a bit" it's shocking even now :P

Regarding the MBA Gyrojet pistols and carbines, the projectiles didn't really explode, they just ran into things like a bullet would but, along with being harmless at close ranges, the combination of low velocity at the muzzle and imperfect machining of the rocket nozzles also made it very difficult to even hit anything in the first place.

Fun fact: Irl ninja actually LOVED guns and explosives. There was even an entire ninja clan who’s specialty was explosives and tools of fire.

Fun fact; the monorail was actually a piece of construction equipment, it was an automatic system to transport dirt from one place to another on a building site. You could fill it up, and send it off, where it will go, and automatically stop. It's very wonky because it's supposed to carry a wheelbarrow load of dirt. Not a cart of slightly chubby British actors.
