Episode 7.5: The Man From Hong Kong

NOTE: We mispronounce Uluru pretty bad in this one but in our defense this is before we realised you could do research for a pod cast
The gang watch a 1975 action movie starring Jimmy Wang Yu as a Hong Kong special agent singlehandedly taking down an Australian drug lord- played by our boy George Lazenby!
This is a 106 minute movie with exactly 18 minutes of dialogue. Strap the fuck in.
Mr Burns: No, no, the person who’s always standing up and walking!

In the novel, Mr. BIG directly worked for the USSR

Why do these fights scenes sound like Yakuza 0 fights? Actually convinced me that I need to watch this film.

I appreciate the examination of all the Bond fuckery but it genuinely makes me so happy to hear y'all have fun and enjoy yourselves and omg this is what a parasocial relationship is, isn't it 🤔

I once played the Dresden Files TTRPG as George Lazenby from a timeline where he did meet Bruce Lee and from him learned how to become a telekinetic punch-wizard. Turned out to be a very powerful character because he had that Lazenby charm for social rolls and he could also punch the head off a werewolf from across the room

I would give my left tit to hear you three talk about those two No One Lives Forever video games about Cate Archer in a bonus episode one day 👀

Just watched this cinematic tour de force on the strength of the episode. I liked the bit where the Friar Tuck cop pretended the drinking fountain was his dick.

i'm so glad that you a) watched this one and b) loved it. one of the few '70s exploitation films that really delivers on everything it promises.
the stunt co-ordinator was Grant Page, an absolute maniac who would go on to co-ordinate and perform most of the bike and car stunts for Mad Max. there's a famous story about him having a nasty bike accident on his way to set for the first Mad Max film and breaking his leg. three days later he checked himself out of the hospital, cut off his cast, and went back to work. on another film he performed a stunt that required him to jump backwards off a cliff while on fire. amazingly the mad bastard is not only alive, but still working to this day

Great ep, was not expecting to be fully sold on a film I'd never heard of by KJB

Also maybe the remake of The Thomas Crowne Affair? It's kind of related to the Brosnan Bonds as Romancing the Stone is related to Indiana Jones

Quality episode. Definitely want to watch that movie now.

Can I recommend Dante's Peak with Brosnan? It's basically a bond movie with the guise of being a disaster movie. Brosnan does some spying on the bad guy, the volcano, get's the love interest, is always cool and right, and uses his wit to save the day. It's kinda like a really watered down martini instead of a shaken one.

I've never heard of this movie, but now I have to see it. It sounds like a blast.
BTW, if you're taking suggestions for bonus episodes, I'd love to recommend Spies Are Forever. It's a filmed musical available for free on YouTube, and it's one of the best Bond parodies I've ever seen.

If a kung fu fight occurs less than once every five minutes, the film will explode.
