Episode 14: Never Say Never Again

Due to a frankly ridiculous set of legal decisions, Some Guy was found by the British high court to have the rights to the movie Thunderball, including Blofeld et al.
This man, with the fervor of a truly divorced guy, set out to make not only a Bond film, but the coolest Bond film he could imagine, within the extremely strict parameters set out by the British high court.
Since the court ruled that the only movie he could make was Thunderball again, we brought back friend of the show Milo Edwards from our Thunderball episode to give it another go!

Googled Kim Basinger + Bond to see how clocky she really was. 1) I see it 2) the movie overview begins as follows: An ✨aging✨ James Bond (Sean Connery) makes an ✨uncharacteristic✨ mistake during a routine training mission..." 😂

So I have a question. Is it fair to say that the less "Bond" a film is, the lower its SCUM score? Is it possible to hit the trifecta of bad-Bond, low-SCUM, but good film?

Abi’s audible *checks notes* moment when bringing up that the footage of the “blue tropical waters of the… English Channel” is just excellent!

gotta suggest The Rock as a potential future bonus episode, if only because Connery's character in the movie has been posited as a future 007/James Bond MI6 guy that was locked up at Alcatraz for, uh, spy shit or whatever.

I missed the Kronstien Roset and Goodnight Cross! I never saw this movie before, made it 30 minutes in and stopped. I thought the editing was garbage and stuff would happen in such a jarring manner. Gotta finish it cause of all the Fatima hype. Looking forward to Grandpa Bond (my man looking old as zombie shit) and the American blonde girl hype in A View to a Kill!

Everyone’s love of Fatima convinced me that KJB would do a great episode on something like Death Becomes Her

That point about Moore's Bond being a relatively lesser evil than the actual context is really interesting, and it makes me think about another Roger Moore movie called North Sea Hijack (ffolkes in the US). I keep thinking it'd be an interesting one for y'all to look at because apparently, according to the Wikipedia page, Moore took the role in order to play against type... as a misogynist. I honestly don't remember whether it's good-bad or bad-bad, though, so caveat podcastor.
