This week we're joined by Komodo Dad from War_Takes to discuss the classic 1992 Legal Thriller that features Jack Nicholson yelling 'YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!'. Join us as we explain why Marines are a kind of Samurai, Why sexual harassment was actually a dischargeable offense in 1992, and just what it is that Aaron Sorkin actually believes...

Comments

I'm a straight CIS man, actually. KJB is my version of Sensible Chuckle Magazine.

Clarp Blarpkiss

Sorkin has the same three dial positions as EastEnders

John

You're disappointed. I'm still waiting for Zardoz!

Cate Kneale

Maybe legal dramas are the greatest exemplars of liberalism? Huh. I definitely think you should do more anyway so that we get more of legal Alice. Maybe The Rainmaker with Tom Cruise being the opposite kind of whizz kid lawyer? You should also do Toys just for the silly little military vehicle.

Cate Kneale

When talking about a movie made today that makes an earnest defense of liberalism and institutions, I think the movie you might be looking for is The Batman (2022). Particularly notable for the fact that the institutions of Gotham city are critiqued and violently attacked by the antagonist but Batman is on the side of liberal rules based order. Kay and skittles has a good video essay on the Batman, they might be a good guest.

Quixotic

kill every sorkin

thejackalope231

if legal dramas are valid bonus episodes now, does that mean legally blonde is a possible future one? (please say yes i'm still so disappointed about that poll)

thejackalope231

Same. I've been listening to the West Wing Thing podcast (which I only recommend in small doses due to how cynical it is), and this episode honestly feels like a breath of fresh air in comparison. At least here I don't leave feeling depressed and miserable.

Benjamin

you must kill the Sorkin in your head.

SleepinBelle

I hadn't thought about this movie in a minute and yeesh it some of it has aged like milk. Also, thanks Komodo for acknowledging those of us born at the right time to be influenced by those big hopeful West Wing feels and the Sorkinisms. Excellent pod as usual.

D&BDomeisen

oic i was afraid it would be patron weirdness thanks for the info.

I would love to hear y'all do A Solider's Story. Such an interesting movie full of incredible actors. Directed by Norman Jewison who doesn't get enough credit for an absurdly diverse body of work. This dude directed Moonstruck, Fiddler on the Roof, The Thomas Crown Affair AND Rollerball.

Slazenger Kincaid

The thing is, both TF and KJB are edited through Nate and the files are named in the same way, so whatever's happening is just Patreon itself being wierd

Its Devon Babeyyy

Devon, can you teach Trashfuture how to set up their podcasts to be as downloadable as yours, its so much less painful to get a KJB ep bonus ep, I don't have to rename the file and fiddle with whatever obfustication patreon dreams up.

SpookyPenguin

lmao whip me harder mummy lmao

Alfred Lang

How do I download these again? I like to listen to them on a flashdrive at work.

Marilyn Fleetwood

Drill Sergeant Abi....hello.

Frontlinecaster

I've been killed dead by the intro. Yay! episode on Top Gun: Maverick, the second instance of the franchise Top Gun, incoming someday.

Lew

Holy shit, "Who the fuck is Betsy Ross?" got me rolling.

Zeroisanumber

Sorkin is physically incapable of writing a tv show or movie where a woman isn't sexually harassed or her authority undermined

Noblesse Oblahaj

Ok but this was in 1992. Stand By Me had Kiefer Sutherland in 1986

Jory Goldsmith

solid top 3 opener here

Arthur Sexcrimes

10/10 intro. No notes.

eeple

That Jack Nicholson impression from Komodo Dad was a perfect Christian Slater.
