We told Devon to pick any movie in the world to watch, with the only requirement that it not be American. After only two real-time weeks of umming and ahhing they instantly picked Police Story 2!

Jackie Chan has been demoted to traffic cop following his successful completion of the plot of Police Story 1, until he successfully foils a bomb threat- and he's put in charge of the investigation![

URGENT APPEAL FOR AID FOR PALESTINE

SAG-AFTRA are still on strike and their donation links can be found in the description of the previous episode. However, right now there's only one link to provide. https://www.map.org.uk/donate/donate

What needs to happen in occupied Palestine cannot be accomplished with donations alone. The UN and entire international community must step in and hold Israel accountable for its ongoing genocide and relentless war crimes against the Palestinian people. Join a solidarity protest as soon as you can

S3E4.5: Police Story 2

Comments

Finally caught up on the bonus episodes and listened to this. At the risk of re-igniting the wonderful, wonderful Muppets casting threads, I immediately pictured Crazy Fai as Crazy Harry... Which then led me to compulsively visualize the rest of the movie (which I've never seen, so just going by the recap) with Miss Piggy in the Jackie Chan role and Kermit as May.

Same thing in the Venice airport, no drugs but plenty of ivory and gator skin

Luca

ah for a second I thought this was Police Story 3 (aka Supercop), the one with Michelle Yeoh. She's so much cooler than she seemed in Tomorrow Never Dies! maybe one day!

Alice if you're interested in learning about colonial Hong Kong fusion food, you should look up the history of cha chaan teng shops. The YouTube channel Chinese Cooking Demystified has been my window into that, and for a cooking show they put a lot of effort into placing recipes in historical context. Hope you find this helpful!

"Echo" is a deaf mute Marvel character from the Daredevil comics

Off to the Protests, I'll pick you up on the way!

Yes Builders Tea and wantoon is about right. Weirdly there was a lot of Borshch in HK canteen food. Also Russian Salad would be the default “salad” in hk. Also curry would have been popular (colonialism!)

Maloria

Such a good episode. You guys should watch ‘El Conde’ by Pablo Larraín! Right up your ally xo

Killian

I just remember a movie y'all might find "interesting" since you did Rambo. Hots shots! part deux spoofs the second and third rambo movie along with other action movies.

Ryan Krause

I think you'd enjoy Infernal Affairs, the 2002 Hong Kong film later adapted as The Departed. I was sure you had already done it, but can't find the episode. Very much an Alice movie I believe (what does it mean to be a cop?)

quantumsquid

I get on and off planes using stairs all the time at a large international airport.

James Cézanne-Taipale

i asked one of my coworkers who used to live in hk, and she said the police canteen would probably have served cha chaan teng-type food - sandwiches, fried rice and lo mein, scrambled eggs, toast, ramen or other noodle soup dishes, and milk tea and coffee (maybe also yuenyeung, coffee and tea mixed together). the stuff in the fried dishes would've most likely been spam, lap cheong, diced pork, or preserved vegetables; potentially seafood as well but probably not eels :). alice's builder's tea and wontons guess was not too far off! (also, listening to a bunch of people with non-rhotic accents say "bali" had me deeply bewildered about how one could go on vacation "to barley")

God's Eepiest Soldier

That needs to be a drop

Abigail doing the car horn impression was so damn funny

Someday I hope to hear your thoughts on The Raid 2

Rowan

Enjoyed this a bunch. You know, Smith and Wesson provided some revolvers to the Royal Hong Kong Police. They have unique markings, a lanyard, etc- and I know this because I own one. I have the coolest damn cop gun.

Noblesse Oblahaj

Deaf Criminal is my hip hop alter ego. I'm leaning on the speakers to feel the beat, I'm lip-reading the other performers, etc.

Eric Langlois

This year J. Crew brought out their Giant Fit Khaki, which I think signals the start of a HugeSuitissance.

Eric Langlois

Warms my heart when I see childhood Hong Kong action movies covered 🥹

SKetches

Warsaw Airport displays (or used to) confiscated items made from endangered species - tiger skins, polar bear skins, an elephant's foot umbrella stand... No drug stuff from what I remember.

Jack Fennell

Listening this at the Hong Kong Airport, en route to the location of the previous bonus episode… are you doing this just for me?
