Hey, Devon here. For the past few months I've been talking to a family trapped in Gaza, working to cover their daily living costs amidst repeated displacements in the Genocide. Their names are Ahmed and Layla, and their 4 kids are Jana, Malik, Lana and Amir. Anything you can contribute would mean the world to me. They deserve to live. They deserve to survive.

Also I could definitely see there being some kind of scene where they catch Diabolik and he’s like “alright alright… my only request before you take me in is to have one last smoke” and they’re like “ah why not let the man have this one thing” and then he’s like “haHA! KNIFE” and kills them instantly

Not on topic for this episode, but I need you all to watch and review XXX. It’s incredibly stupid and very Bond adjacent. I just watched it a couple days ago and man oh man.

I think a Large Lupin Collider is what happens when a studio makes a crossover heist movie

Lady Agnew is an excellent choice and I'm not surprised it's November's favourite. If you don't know it, do yourself a favour and look it up. It fucks SO hard.

I have suggested hundreds of films to Devon, this is the first one they have actually listened to! I suggested it after hearing Mark Kermode losing his mind over it. I hope they all do the same

I just found out a film you have to do for heist season: The Lavender Hill Mob. Obviously, it's a classic comedy heist caper, but that's not the reason you have to do it. In 1995 The Vatican's Pontifical Council for Social Communications sent a pamphlet about film appreciation to its bishops, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Lumiere's first film showing. It included a list of 45 films they considered important, classified in three groups: "Religion", "Values", and "Art". The Lavender Hill Mob is Art.

I've actually done the radioactive jewelry to catch a criminal thing before, small world. My sister makes a sort of Columbo type murder mystery show in New Zealand and I helped to come up with one of the murder weapons.

I'm a busted clock on this, but if you all like art heists, museum guards, and stunning women in high fashion, you really, really should watch How to Steal a Million for the heist season.

You three have to do Sexy Beast at some point during robbery season, I would love to hear Abby talk about Ben Kingsley’s performance in that movie

Fun fact: the actor playing Ginko, Valerio Mastandrea, has actually played Zenigata in the 2008 short movie Basette, about a small time thief who imagines himself as Lupin.

It's a shame they didn't keep Luca Marinelli as Diabolik. He's one of the best Italian actors of his generation and a bit of a chameleon, which I think helped with the role.

I just assumed Diabolik the OG comic book character was made by a dirty old man but no! Created by two sisters, Angela and Luciana Giussani!

Because I am a commenter whomst lives in the US I can say: lest we forget, BlackGryphon *may* have groomed Michele Forever, the VA for Apple Bloom. Or he was otherwise close with the Crebers and two of the CMC VAs before they turned 18 and pretty quickly started dating Creber, I think. I don't know what their relationship is now. Also: Grover City? Equestria at War reference? Investigating this! (bugging EaW devs to listen to this episode and making Griffin devs answer for Grover City)

I involuntarily sharply and audibly breathed in when the next Patreon episode was announced. I remember when Sex and the City 2 came out listening to Mark Kermode review it on the BBC 5 Live film review show and him becoming so furious he started singing the Internationale live on air.

The Large Lupin Collider as a device that just smacks Lupins together I think is already the plot of one of the Lupin movies, only half joking

Good morning. Have you considered reviewing the 2024 Irish rap dramedy Kneecap. I think you three will have a lot to say about it. For Abby: opinions about the amateur actors playing themselves, and doing it well. For November: opinions about the way people internalize their oppression in to their sexualities. For Devon: the use of native languages as a tool for fighting oppression, considering their recent efforts at learning Arabic. And for all, the use of art as a tool for fighting oppression. I think you would enjoy it also, it's a lot of fun.

I think this is a consequence of the director having more creative freedom. This is a bit of a conspiracy theory, but I suspect that the first Joker was meant to be a serious movie about social murder in the context of Gotham having no real social safety net. When you have a city wherein people like Arthur are allowed to fall through the cracks while people like Thomas Wayne are allowed to have all of the resources, of course some random televised murder with a veneer of populism will spark a social movement, and all of the consequential violence that goes along with that. But, and again conspiracy theory, that serious social murder drama was changed in the production process to make Arthur more of an anti hero and the movie more of an uncritical character study so that Joaquim Phoenix could Oscar Act to his Nasty Little Freakish™ heart's content. I suspect that due to Joker 1's success, Todd Phillips was given more creative freedom and decided to clarify what he was trying to say and in doing so made a highly refutational film that necessarily disrespects the first one's message of individualism and self actualization through violence. Just a theory.

Have a gay friend who is an armed security guard and he makes like $30+ an hour. My wife has suggested that I could do the same thing. As an american, I already own a handgun.
There's a 2009 movie called "The Maiden Heist" where three museum guards decide to steal each of their favorite pieces before they get locked away/sold. Morgan Freeman, Christopher Walken, and William H Macy.
And as always: MOUNTAIN GOATS MENTIONED
